So, we do not know the sheer horror of war.
And without knowing the sheer horror of war, there is less incentive to end it by winning.
Because ultimately, the way to end war is by defeating, (and that usually means killing more of) the bad guys. If you're not "in it to win it", you're not going to end it.
And here we are in Afghanistan for 15 years.
