Trump: GOP will become 'worker's party' under me
Politico ^ | 05/26/16 | Nick Glass

Under a President Donald Trump, the Republican Party would become a different one, a broad, populist coalition focused on workers who have gone too long without a raise and on social programs the party establishment has long seen as anathema to its long-term success.

“Love the question,” Trump said in response to a question from Bloomberg Businessweek's Joshua Green in a profile of Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus published Thursday. The article bears the headline, "How to Get Trump Elected When He’s Wrecking Everything You Built."

“Five, 10 years from now — different party. You’re going to have a worker’s party," Trump said in the May 17 interview. "A party of people that haven’t had a real wage increase in 18 years, that are angry." Trump reiterated that cutting Social Security would be a "big mistake" for the GOP, remarking that "[c]utting it the wrong way is a big mistake, and even cutting it [at all]."

Despite having issued numerous threats to the party about what he suggested would be a "steal" of his nomination, Trump praised the RNC chairman profusely. "I call Reince Mr. Switzerland,” Trump said. “He’s doing a great job as peacemaker.”

Trump: GOP will become 'worker's party' under me

A lot of Berniephiles might be fooled by that designation; to them the "worker's party" mean commies!

...when you cry out that Social Security is broke and needs to be tinkered with—yet on the other hand the government apparently has unlimited funds to prosecute wars in the middle east and maintain bases around the globe-most average americans are disgusted

You neglected to mention the lazy scammers who feed at the trough undeservedly, with fake ailments or affected mental illnesses. The ones who can give you fifty four reasons why they can't work. And the spending for "research" on pressing issues like "why are lesbians fat".

>>but raise the retirement age for those under 40 to 70

The problem with that is that not everyone is a web page designer or cubical worker. What do you tell the power plant or factory or construction worker who just isn’t management material—and even if HE was, HE has little chance of promotion in this day. Those people have a hard time making it to 65.

Even if you added an “unable to perform your job = automatic disability without delay” clause, then you’d just have the office workers retiring at 55 with carpal tunnel syndrome.

I agree with you about the 70 year old retirement age, but it needs to be something that takes into account what a person did to their body to get a paycheck for those 50 years of work.

SS is already in the red... there’s nothing to lock away. Every SS tax dollar that comes in goes out.

“Leftist rhetoric. What fun.

All lovey dovey with Prince Rebus, how heartwarming.

Republican Party has of course always been more for, and better for, the working man than the Democrats.

It’s a sign of the times that Trump has to use Marxist rhetoric to appeal to conservative Americans.”

You’re right. He should have said “The typical American work should be grateful that he or she even has a job. We need more entrepreneurs....not more labor.” I mean how clueless can Trump be. /sarc.

And if you think Reince Priebus and Trump adore one another....well...your brain is getting soft. No establishment Republican likes Trump.

Finally, the Republican Party has always been better for the typical “working man” than the Democrats? Obama and all the Dems still in Congress are proof that not nearly enough Americans see it as you do.

And by “worker,” he doesn’t mean “illegal immigrants.”

That’s why the Republicrats hate him so much.

It is odd that Trump is propping up Sanders vs Hillary with the debate. If this works, and it sure May, Sanders could be the nominee. If so, there is no chance to catch Bernie supporters. That scenario works only if a Hillary is the nominee.

The way to split the Democrats wide open is to make the Sandernistas think they have a good shot at winning it, only for them to get punked by Hillary's party people at the convention. Maximises the number of hard cases who are "never gonna vote for Hillary."

I would absolutely run on this.

We are the party of the Workers
They are the party of the Non-Workers.

Many of us who abhor the H1-B Visa abuse and massive illegal immigration, screw the workers. In one case you are screwing middle upper-class workers, whereas with illegals you arbitrarily keep wages low.

That isn’t even getting into allowing GM/Ford to build plants in Mexico at zero penalty. I have checked prices on cars and I don’t see some massive savings from building down in a 3rd world country.

Trump has already stated publicly he would not choose a Democrat as VP. Guess if someone is determined to stick to a conspiracy view, they could say Sanders is a Socialist, thus he wasn’t ruled out.

I’ve already figured out Trump has blown the old playbooks out of the water, and any conjectures I may make based on them are null and void.

Wow this thread sucks.

People worried about Marxism. The NeoCons, NAFTA, TPP, whatever name a “free Trade agreement”.

Armchair quarterback here. We’ve screwed American Workers.

Tech companies literally fire American Workers to replace them with cheap Indians who are indentured servants living 6 to an apartment. That’s why Sessions and Trump are wanting to fix H-1B unlike Little Marco who wanted to raise it by 3X.

Illegals force wages of the working class to remain low. With Inflation the working people have suffered for the last 20+ years.

Record numbers of people ARE NOT working.

Trump is killing it with White working class people. Wait until he starts on NAFTA against Hillary. He’ll lock up Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania etc.

Tariffs — Again supports American Workers.

This was my exact quote at dinner last night to my 19 and 21 year old sons (both Alt-Right), my wife and her mother. I can’t believe I’m reading that Trump said the same thing..... My quote was this. And part of this is Trump will get business moving again.

GOP - Party of the Working people
DNC - Party of the Non-Working people

I don’t like scammers- but at least they are American citizens—many of them are scamming because of the lack of economic opportunity or jobs in their areas—particularly rural. Although I do not condone such actions—It doesn’t bother me considering the money spent overseas and on education, health care, prison for illegals and their children.

I would rather see Welfare cut and the deadbeats put to work before they take a hatchet to SS for people that worked and were forced to pay into the system for their entire working careers. I understand that something needs to be done but do it to the Welfare deadbeats first.

We have seen what the oligarchs really want in this country: Gay Marriage, Tranny Bathrooms, unlimited illegal immigration, etc. Let them join the anti-Christian/anti-American Democrat party with the rest of the perverts. They were never conservatives in the first place.

Wasn’t it a party of workers rather than plantation aristocrats at its inception? Wasn’t Reagan’s win due to his appeal to working Republicans rather than country clubbers? Some on this thread may be joking a bit, but they’re still skirting close to Godwin’s law. I expect though that more than one poster here will be zotted off before we reach next May.
