That photo has wrenched my heart every time I’ve seen it. That young man was doing his best to keep a brave face but the anguish is so obvious.

He and his family are from a town only 25 miles from here.

(DNJ photo by Aaron Thompson.) Christian Golczynski, 8, receives the flag from his father's casket from Lt. Col. Ric Thompson during the graveside service at Wheeler Cemetery in Bedford County. Golczynski's father, Marcus, was killed by enemy fire in Iraq last week (3/27/07).

Staff Sgt. Marcus A. Golczynski, 30, of Lewisburg, TN, died March 27 from wounds received while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq. Golczynski was assigned to Marine Forces Reserve's 3rd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Nashville, TN.
