Sir Paul McCartney has talked candidly about the depression he suffered after The Beatles broke up, confessing he considered giving up music altogether.
Speaking to BBC Radio 4's Mastertapes, he said he had been at a loss when the band fell apart in acrimony in 1970.

Depression? No gun for you Sir Paul. Oh, sorry........
The Beatles broke up at the right time. Had they gone on, I think it would have soured their legacy. Look what happened to The Stones.
What could he do but go forward . . . on a Wings and a prayer.
If he wanted to cheer up, all he had to do was take a trip to the bank to look at the giant pile of money that he had.
He certainly made the most of it with the wings!
Well, he was part of one of most successful groups of all time, and they achieved all that success when they were all young men. What do you do for an encore, when you’ve been to the very top of your field of endeavor???? I can see what he’s saying.
I was, too.
They provided the soundtrack of my adolescence.
I’ll always be a Beatles fan.
Paul? he’s been dead since ‘66.
I still love the “Ram” album, to me it was as good as anything he did with The Beatles.
YEP
Uncle Albert sounded like a leftover from the Beatles days.
He was the first to rush out and do a solo album.
His first couple of albums were full of leftovers, the first solo album I think was actually recorded when they were doing The White Album. You have to be impressed that he played all the instruments on that one.
My favorite was “Smile Away.”
Paul was a prolific writer of songs both with and after The Beatles. George was really hitting his stride in that area just about the time of the breakup. John got whacked out with Yoko and losing manager Brian Epstein was a big blow. Oh well-—nothing lasts forever— not even Keith Richards.
Yep, Lennon was a bit "off" and I doubt they could have gone on much longer after he got with KooKoo Yoko.
Kookoo Yoko turned his fortune into an even larger fortune and did a great job with their son. So she did something right.
Yes.
