An unlikely voice recently bemoaned the decline of civility in presidential politics, warned that deep anger was fueling an almost radical populism and sang the praises of former President Bill Clinton particularly his redemptive years of philanthropic work since leaving the White House.
The voice was that of Kenneth W. Starr, the former Whitewater independent counsel, whose Javert-like pursuit of Mr. Clinton in the 1990s helped bring a new intensity to partisan warfare and led to the impeachment of a president for only the second time in the nations history.
The presumptive Republican nominee, Donald J. Trump, increasingly seems to be trying to relitigate the scandals that Mr. Starr investigated, dredging up allegations of sexual transgressions by Mr. Clinton to accuse Hillary Clinton the likely Democratic nominee of having aided and enabled her husband at the expense of Mr. Clintons female accusers.
But Mr. Starr expressed regret last week that so much of Mr. Clintons legacy remains viewed through the lens of what Mr. Starr demurely termed the unpleasantness.
His remarks seemed almost to absolve Mr. Clinton, if not to exonerate him.

I think it was all about collusion, look at how much was covered up.
yes Starr was working on the coverup..he focused on Sex and diverted attention from the Chinese deals, Foster, etc
Clinton was in fact impeached (accused of wrongdoing) in 1998. However, he was acquitted in the ensuing Senate trial, primarily because the GOP majority in the Senate at the time was not going to give Algore the opportunity to run as an incumbent President in 2000. The GOP majority in the Senate pretended that the House Managers did not prove their case, which is a laughable supposition at best, even though the rationale for that action was understandable.
Kenneth Starr was one of Jeffrey Epstein’s attorneys.
Kenneth Starr reportedly fired as Baylor president amid football team sexual assault scandal
On Drudge.
Oh, puleez. Starr wanted BJ buried as much as the FBI wants to bury Hellary today. Both half hearted efforts and nothing to come from either.
Starr was a joke!
Uniparty globalists always set up the kabuki theater for the masses on any outright corruption or violation of their sock puppet politicians. It is rigged just like HFT for the stock market. No one goes to jail, no one is held accountable, all the actors involved end up making out like bandits both professionally and financially after the dust settles and the public wanders off to the next distraction.
Ken Starr did what he was supposed to, got rewarded afterwards, and is now showing that it is one big happy group behind closed doors where it matters.
So Clinton gets impeached, what then? We get stuck with President Gore.
You don’t seem either to remember or to grasp different roles in the prosecution of Clinton. Starr was the independent prosecutor. It was his office that pursued the lying under oath (the actual crime) that led to the impeachment, to Clinton’s having to surrender his law license for 5 years, and having to make significant monetary restitution.
It is the U.S. House of Representatives that conducts the impeachment. Clinton was impeached. A team from the House of Representatives (called the “Managers’) was then responsible for the prosecution in the U.S. Senate (before the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court).
It was the Senate, not Starr who had nothing to do with the Senate prosecution, that failed to find Clinton guilty. A bunch of cowardly Senators. Had they found him guilty, he’d not have finished out his 2nd term and, yes, we’d have been stuck with “President Gore.” Not necessarily for two terms. When Ford succeeded Nixon who had to resign in disgrace rather than face impeachment, he was not elected to a full term.
I don’t think Bush would have defeated an “Incumbent” Gore.
After seeing how Gore turned out, we definitely lucked out that the fix was in for Clinton. Nature of unintended consequences worked out for us. An interesting counterpart is that when the time is up for a political sock puppet, the inevitable closet of skeletons is cycled 24/7 and the individual can’t wait to retire or is quickly forced out or is crushed in an election. But they always have a replacement lined up to carry on the work (Boehner / Ryan is just the latest example of that).
Mister Couldn't-Get-the-Job-Done, who wasted money for years, just switched sides, eh? He wasn't trying to run interference for Clinton the whole time? Good to know. Thanks rightwingintelligentsia.
Is Starr GAY or something??? What a WUSS!!
And it was Hillary that gave the orders to start BOMBING THE HELL OUT F THEM!!
Ken Starr is a Pedophile’s attorney??
We’ll never know .. thank GOD !!!
Clinton was NEVER in danger of being removed from office.
There was no way he was going to be convicted for lying. Dem senators voting to remove some one for lying? I am sure there are still folks laughing over that.
Starr was playing for the other side.
He choose to go ahead on the sexual case instead of the far more egregious illegal Chinese Army funding scandal.
We never did get the Barrett report released either.
Ken, feel free to go F yourself.
