President Obama signed a legislatively passed amendment to the Local Public Works and Capital Development and Investment Act of 1976 that bans the federal government from using the words Negro and Oriental to describe blacks and Asians.
Many Americans may not be aware that the word Oriental is derogatory, said Rep. Grace Meng on New York, Breitbart reported. But it is an insulting term that needed to be removed from the books and I am extremely pleased that my legislation to do that is now the law of the land. The term Oriental has no place in federal law and at long last this insulting and outdated term will be gone for good.
The measure also updates how the federal government describes minorities, and replaces Negro with African-American and American Indians as Native Americans. The acceptable reference for Oriental is now Asian-American, Breitbart reported.
Just a few weeks ago, the Library of Congress began its official replacement of illegal alien with other less inflammatory references to those in the country illegally.
Our country is a rich tapestry of cultural backgrounds and Americans of all backgrounds deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, said Rep. Ed Royce, R-Calif., one of the co-sponsors of the bill.

Truth be told, more like an octoroon. One eighth black, three eighths Arab and half white.
How long before the new terms become offensive too?
I didn’t know oriental was offensive, but I don’t use it.
You used the word "chink"!
when i was growing 40’s/50s call a black man black was fighting words.
Come to think of it, I had not heard the word Oriental used to describe Asians in a very long time.
It simply means “from the east”. They’re offended by that WHY, exactly?
I don’t know. But will the armed forces have to rename their “orienteering” courses?
Bingo JT
No one is offended. It is akin to the so-called "Redskins" bs where when you ask actual native americans they shrug their shoulders. This stuff is all made up to advance an agenda.
[[But White is still OK?]]
You can’t say white- you can however say Cracka
[[African American, Hispanic, Puerto Rican,]]
So those who were never born in Africa should be called Africans now? Those not born in puerto rico should be called puerto ricans? I wasn’t born in Rome- Can i demand they call me a roman?
With a mandatory significant penalty for any legislator who tries.
My obscure choice? Calling ANY waste of taxpayer funds an "investment" in any Expenditure Bill whatsoever.
The Major Divisions of the Human Race
Most anthropologists recognize 3 or 4 basic races of man in existence today. These races can be further subdivided into as many as 30 subgroups.
Ethnographic division into races from Meyers Konversationslexikon of 1885-90 is listing:
Caucasian races (Aryans, Hamites, Semites)
Mongolian races (northern Mongolian, Chinese and Indo-Chinese, Japanese and Korean, Tibetan, Malayan, Polynesian, Maori, Micronesian, Eskimo, American Indian),
Negroid races (African, Hottentots, Melanesians/Papua, Negrito, Australian Aborigine, Dravidians, Sinhalese)
We have a mountain in Western Maryland called ‘Negro Mountain’. There have been attempts to change the name, but they’ve never gone over, partly because even a lot of AA people don’t want the history of it messed-with. It has a very interesting story:

I missed that—where does the Arab bloodline come from?
What a weenie.
Here’s the wiki on the term ‘Orient’:

I still haven’t figured out what about the term has “deep and demeaning historical roots” - one could say the same, and they probably eventually will, of the term ‘Asian’ or ‘South Asian’- those terms don’t “describe ethnic origin, background or even race” either.
This is just a lot of small-minded ‘hooey’.
(As I said in a previous thread on this issue, a whole RUG companies, are going to have to change their names ;-)

A lot of Chinese restaurants will have to change their names, too. :-)
LOL! Lots of ‘Orient Express’ ones :-)
His father’s side...IF his father is who he declares him to be, and not “Frank”.
