Pakistan said the United States drone strike that reportedly killed a Taliban leader violated its sovereignty, The Guardian reported .
Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour was killed in an airstrike on Saturday in Pakistan, CNN confirmed , according to sources within al Qaeda and the Taliban.
U.S. officials said the drone strike was authorized by President Obama. But Pakistan said Sunday the U.S. government didn't tell Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif of its plans ahead of the strike.
This is a violation of Pakistans sovereignty, Sharif told reporters in London, according to The Guardian.
The Guardian reported that the American government had not notified Pakistan until after the strike was carried out.
The drone strike happened around 6 a.m. Saturday in an area around the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
"Mansour played a key leadership role in not only orchestrating the Taliban but orchestrating a variety of other organizations to include the Haqqani Network and al Qaeda who were perpetrating operations against not only U.S. forces but coalition forces and Afghan forces for a long period of time," Gen. Joseph Votel of U.S. Central Command said at a news conference in Amman, Jordan, according to CNN.
"He's an individual who has been in that structure for a long time. I'm glad he's gone."
Votel made a secret visit to Syria on Saturday to examine Arab and Kurd efforts to defeat the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), according to The Associated Press . He spent 11 hours in northern Syria meeting with Syrian Arab and Kurd fighters, as well as with leaders of the Syrian Democratic Forces, a coalition of groups supported by the U.S.
as is the concept of national sovereignty, and by the same hands
Maybe Pakistan does not want any financial aid to infringe upon its sovereignty.
Nothing like pissing off a NUCLEAR ARMED muslim country.
Yep, after the Pakis hiding out bin Laden all those years there should be no financial aid.
Any sane country would have cut them off after finding him there.
9/11 violated our sovereignty. So there.
What sovereignty?
Harboring terrorists negates your sovereignty. Checkmate! BOOM!!!
If Pakistan wouldn’t harbor these scum in their forsaken country then these problems would never come up.
Boom Bump!
How about ...
“We’re going to kill all the terrorists in Pakistan and make Pakistan pay for it!”
LOL
Our SoS says we are a world without borders now.
Sovereignty is so outdated, dontchaknow.
Swatting HaPPens.. a multiple drone hit.. reserved for only the highest mucky mucks. An AC-130 would have worked for me.. Skrewple Pakistan and it’s “sovereignty”. Jmo
Prime Minister Sharif: Hey, you didnt give us enough time to warn him.
Obama doesn’t believe in sovereignty
