As noted in another piece on AT, the Washington Post on Friday published a poll that categorically demonstrates that Native Americans by a huge majority do not consider the moniker of Washington, D.C.s football team Redskins -- offensive. This should deal a substantial blow to the movement to force the team to change its name, which is now conclusively revealed to be made up of nothing more than a tiny minority of Native American activists supported by mainstream leftists Democrat politicians anxious to find yet another way to balkanize and divide the public. But dont count on the mere fact that that the poll demonstrates that this is a non-issue stopping them.
The poll was commissioned by the Post, and came after years of agitation by activists, public declarations of Democrat politicians against the moniker (including President Obama), and action by the Patent and Trademark Office against the team. This suggests that the results actually understate the support and/or indifference of Native Americans for the team name. The Post, which editorially has also opposed the name, and whose reporters carefully avoid using it, clearly hoped that the new poll would reverse the findings of a 2003 poll which demonstrated the same lack of concern among Native Americans towards the name, but it clearly did not.
The Post deserves some credit for publishing what must have been disappointing results for its editors above the fold in this Fridays edition. The newspaper is deeply invested in the controversy and has done much to stir it up, a fact evident in that no less than six articles were devoted to the poll in Fridays paper (three in the main news section, one in Metro, two in Sports.)

American Indians are SUPPOSED to be offended by the Washington Redskins’ name. If they aren’t, then they need to be sent to sensitivity training, so that they can be trained to become sensitive.
DenocRATs -N- Liberals never allow facts or the truth to sink their logic, if you call it that.
That’s right.
American Indians apparently are not as sophisticated as the liberals , to know that they are supposed to be offended.
So will liberals keep after this subject???
I’ve heard that the District of Columbia could be interested in building a new stadium for the Redskins. But, that any such move by the team to DC, would be contingent on changing the Redskins name.
The liberals who run DC may well find that they will have no chance of getting a stadium deal with the team, based on their stated position that the team should change the name.
My football team is the Washington Redskins. I refer to them most of the time as the Redskins or just plain old skins. When they lose (which is quite often) I normally add an expletive deleted in front of their name.
My son in law, love him as I do even though he is an Eagles fan, refers to my beloved team as the “foreskins.” Now that is just wrong!
Needless to say I keep reminding him that the Redskins have more superbowls and championships than his damn team.
Fighting liberalism is ultimately a fight against absurdity. As a result, it takes more than logic to beat them. If all it took were being right, we would have won decades ago.
Years ago Dennis Praeger interviewed someone claiming to be a “Native American activist” trying to pressure teams like the Redskins, Indians, Chiefs, etc to change their names. He asked Praeger, an ordained Rabbi how he would like it if there were a team called the Texas Jewboys. Mr. Praeger laughed and said he would be overjoyed because finally after 5000 years someone would be cheering for us

yes, follow the money. The DC government may have decided a stadium deal is more important than the name change.
Why else would the Post have published the poll? They could have buried it.
“Needless to say I keep reminding him that the Redskins have more superbowls and championships than his damn team.”
Which team has the most in the last twenty years?
First time I heard the term “Jewboy”, it was from a redneck marveling over the Israeli victory in the Six Day War when he said,
“Hot damn! Looks like them Jewboys know how to fight!”
This will become an offense known as “Refusal to Be Balkanized.”
i’ve been finding the Redskins offensive for years...they can’t beat anybody...
Hasn't the American government done ENOUGH to these poor folks?
Haven't the Indian schools brainwashed all the RED out of them by now?
Even the Mormons have tried to 'help' the Natives...
I saw a striking contrast in the progress of the Indian people today ... they are fast becoming a white and delightsome people.... For years they have been growing delightsome, and they are now becoming white and delightsome, as they were promised.... The children in the home placement program in Utah are often lighter than their brothers and sisters in the hogans on the reservation.
At one meeting a father and mother and their sixteen-year-old daughter were present, the little member girl-sixteen-sitting between the dark father and mother, and it was evident she was several shades lighter than her parentson the same reservation, in the same hogan, subject to the same sun and wind and weather.... These young members of the Church are changing to whiteness and to delightsomeness.
One white elder jokingly said that he and his companion were donating blood regularly to the hospital in the hope that the process might be accelerated.
(Improvement Era, December 1960, pp.922-23). (p. 209)
The Balkans are populated by Caucasians, so the term will have to be replaced.
PETA actually had an interesting idea. Call the team the Redskins, but change the mascot to a pile of small spuds.
Since most of the folks who attend home games are DC parasites, I think the name should be changed to the Washington Tapeworms.
And the beer vendors can yell, “This Spud’s for you!”
*groan* :-)
And when apostates go live on the reservation they suddenly like chameleons start turning brown. Godless savages!
No, you choose a team name that evokes fierceness, power, speed, commitment, teamwork... You pick a name people associate with these things. Call me crazy, but I wouldn't mind being associated with those traits. Sadly, no-one names their team "average white guys"... Well, maybe a beer-league softball team...
The only way I see "Washington Redskins" as offensive to Native Americans is when they perform badly - oh, and many of their fans are some of the most fickle fans I've ever run across.
