Egypt air
Could they have flown through the ash cloud? Ash Clouds and jet engines are not compatible.

Interesting thought. We just passed Mt Etna 2 weeks ago....it looked like it was smoking!

Looks like a well traveled air route so other planes would be reporting such problems.

I was on a military mission to Africa, flight crew needed to land in Sicily for mandatory rest time. We were stuck there for 4 days because of Etna.

Could they have flown through an ash cloud?Valid thought. Remember back a few years ago when that volcano erupted in Iceland and air traffic had to avoid the impacted area for quite awhile?

Etna is always erupting in varying degrees. I was stationed at NAS Sigonella in the late ‘80s and there was always fire on the mountain.

Strombolian? I LOVE that!! My wife makes a really great one with pepperoni, garlic and sausage!

Ash clouds flame-out jet engines, leading to ditching in the water in one piece; not mid-air explosions.

I had to look up the definition for ‘strombolian’, as I could not fathom how a rolled up Italian delicacy related to a volcano.
Does anyone know if the Egypt Air flight traversed an ash cloud?

To all my friends in Sigonella, hope this doesn’t cause problems.

From what I understand Vesuvius is due at anytime to blow again....and there are a heck of a lot more people living in that area than there were in 79 AD.
