Sadly we were locked down on Sig.
But I agree Taormina would have been great.

Ash clouds flame-out jet engines, leading to ditching in the water in one piece; not mid-air explosions.

I had to look up the definition for ‘strombolian’, as I could not fathom how a rolled up Italian delicacy related to a volcano.
Does anyone know if the Egypt Air flight traversed an ash cloud?

Thanks for that link. It sounds a lot like what happened to this flight, and perhaps the pilot’s attmepts to avert disaster.

Oh please. He would have been able to contact someone to let them know the engines were out. No contact with anyone, just gone, equals terrorists.

Ash clouds flame-out jet engines, leading to ditching in the water in one piece; not mid-air explosions With all engines out power for the hydraulics is either nil or extremely limited. From 37000 feet you would lose power to control on the way down as opposed to the miracle on the Hudson where sully still had some hydraulics as he was close to the ground.
Did they definitely say it blew up high? I did t read that

I haven’t heard anything definite yet.
Even if they lost all hydraulics, the pilots would still have had time for a “Mayday” call.

The missing Egypt Air plane is an A320, which appear to have a ram-air turbine to provide hydraulic power in case of loss of engines.

From what I understand Vesuvius is due at anytime to blow again....and there are a heck of a lot more people living in that area than there were in 79 AD.

Ash clouds flame-out jet engines, leading to ditching in the water in one piece; not mid-air explosions. Yea, but having a Stromboli sucked into the engine might have caused something. Lots of flammable grease.
To: DuncanWaring
Yeah I did a search too. Found the same thing. Ram air turbine. Interesting. Probably terrorists anyway.
