An EgyptAir flight heading from Paris to Cairo has disappeared from radar, the airline tweeted.

But if it didn’t go off radar for 20 minutes after the signal, so I would assume there would be time for some radio traffic. Unless they were prevented somehow.
So still nothing from the pilots. This means it was not a takeover of the plane by hostiles but a bomb detonated with no warning.

Emergency equipment on EgyptAir flight transmitted distress signal at 4:26 a.m.
CNN now confirming there was no distress call.
This is the ELT going off.

Which is the real translation from Arabic?
Or unless something happened to the radios.
I wonder if airliner life rafts have locator beacons. If one was blown out in a crash and inflated.......
What happened in the 20 minutes between the time the distress signal went out and when the aircraft actually went off radar?
Yep, that would fall under “prevented”.
Just a still image could be a meteor or space junk reentering. Would have to see a video to determine the speed. A plane would probably appear to be going slower than a meteor or space junk.
If you go to Flightaware you can see the plane accelerated from 598 to 613 MPH in last few minutes. Its last reported speed is the fasted recorded of the entire flight. I thought that was strange when I first saw this.
Airbuses have been known to have the tail fall off in midair for no apparent reason, just FYI.
Good explanation of how aircraft ELT system works.

The news seems to have corrected that there was any distress signal before impact, that the beacon sent the signal out upon impact. So there wasn’t a 20 minute time period where the popiltos were aware something was wrong.

But no change in altitude, just speed?
Pilots. Why did apple autocorrect to “popiltos?” Wonder what that means.
Looks like it was on fire and still moving horizontally.
Got it.
Pure speculation:
Maybe a bomb went off, depressurized the plane and caused damage to the controls. Then maybe the pilots struggled with the controls, forgetting to put on oxygen masks and lost consciousness. The plane may have been on autopilot and continued to fly until it broke up. The speed gain may have been due to control damage from the bomb.
If your speculation is how it happened, then the plane was on fire (but with the weird speeded up speed) and possibly autopiloted until the moment it finally blew up.
Bomb not big enough to blow up plane, just enough to cause huge damage, no O2, maybe fuselage penetrated. Plane continues for a bit (pilots dead or unconscious) and then the fire reaches an engine or fuel tank and kablooie.
So sad, all these special phone numbers for the families. No matter what, no authorities can bring back their loved ones. Saddddd.
