There have been laws passed on this subject in Florida, always to the great consternation of liberals and gun control advocates, but it remains an open question in much of the country. Should your doctor be asking you during the course of a routine check-up whether or not you or any family members have a gun in your house? And what if they do just come out and ask? Ben Guarino at the Washington Post brings us some information about a study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine which suggests that nothing should hold doctors back from inquiring. You know
just for your own good.

I tell them I am afraid to answer yes or no because either way it could set us up for a home robbery by whoever may gain access to their system.
“Since you’re asking me about guns at a doctor’s office, I think I’ll go now to my local gun shop and ask about this sore throat that I have. Bye.”
“Ooh, gracious no! Guns are icky!!”
It’s best if you give ‘em a Bruce Willis deadpan look while saying it.
And trust me, there is a “code” for everything that goes on in the docs office these days. “Do you smoke tobacco products?” code for yes, code for no. “Have you thought of quitting?” Code for yes, code for no. Your permanent record.
on more than one occasion i’ve suggested the doc show up at my house unexpected and find out for himself
lol You could get all drama like.
Oh my God! Are you saying someone’s gun infected my child?! Well I’ll get to the bottom of this and find out exactly where it happened! Hmmm I’ll have to call his school, all his playmate’s parents, every single one of the relatives. This is gonna take some time. How long do I have before I have to get back to you with the answer?! Am I on a time limit? You know I already have a bunch of crushing deadlines at work. Gonna have to prioritize this on my list of priorities. Oh wait! He was at my job not too long ago. Wow! Now I’ve just added every single person at work to my list.
Bet they’d forget what the question even was and usher you out the door and then mark...fricken nuts...on your chart. lol
Whether or not dishonesty is a vice depends on the context. It's not a vice to lie to criminals, Nazis, or any other type of tyrannical government, when there is a treat to one's natural rights.
“Doc, since you’ve intruded outside of your medical expertise, I’ll go find a doc who prefers to focus on medical practice.”
My answer is always, “No. Do you?”
My doc may be in trouble.
There are some questions that he just skips because he says it isn’t any of his business.
If the Doc can't tell, he needs to give up his medical license.
For most of us Freepers the best and most honest answer would be “No” ... because we have several.
No and Im not hiding any Jews in the attic either. Is there anything else in that regard Dr.?
OMG. That is the PERFECT response. My dad, of blessed memory, was a Holocaust survivor. A doc asks me that, I will respond “Am I hiding any Jews in the attic?” And just leave it at that. Thanks.
Doctor to patient: Do you own a gun?
Patient: Who wants to know?
Saying Yes, is information they do not need. The only safe answer is None of your business. Lying sets you up for potential problems down the road.
The only time I ever mentioned guns to my doctor when was after he noticed a huge bruise on my shoulder as I take blood thinners. He mentioned he had several and they also bruised his shoulder.
Since then I no longer shoot the heavy gun. and never mention anything. But what am I going to do with a kazillion rounds of super kicking ammo in a light rifle?
I just realized the only difference between a tyranny and a tranny is a ‘y’
I own a staple gun, a caulking gun, a nail gun.....
