The two most important criteria are always the same:
1. Pick someone who's would ready to be president, if necessary, and
2. DO NO HARM
He's said he'd like someone with political and legislative experience to help him deal with congress, and he's also said he'd consider some of his former rivals...
1. Former opponents
Both Rick Perry and Bobby Jindal have endorsed Trump. Both are former governors. But Trump will probably win Texas and Louisiana without them...
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was one of Trump's earliest establishment endorsers.. If being an attack dog is a top requirement for a VP candidate then Christie's evisceration of Marco Rubio is a qualification/ recommendation. Then again, Trump usually takes care of those duties himself.
John Kasich, Ted Cruz and Rubio all fit Trump's criteria, though Rubio has ruled it out, and it's hard to see Kasich or Cruz on the ticket after their previous brutal fights with Trump...
2. Members of Congress current and former
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich knows something about running against the establishment. He's made it clear he'd be happy to be on the ticket...

No ineligibles, please.
Duncan D. Hunter
Jim DeMint
Cruz? Hell no to the tenth power.
It’s been a while since I took English Composition, but doesn’t that Headline make it sound like Clinton and Trump would pick the same person as V.P.?
Open borders La Raza Rick ? He sure was never interested in border enforcement in his 14+ years as Governor. Too busy pandering to our nation's enemies.
Trump-Cruz or we all lose.
I’d love to see Cruz.
We will find out at the convention
I say let Trump be Trump
No
No Lyin’ Loon Ted Cruz, not in a million years. He has completely ruined his career.
Again no. Cruz has proven himself to be a true politician
Haters’ heads would explode around here.
How so ?
Good guy. Solid Conservative. Hated by the Establishment.
Trump-Cruz 2016.
Cruz? You mean the Bush errand boy who will do their bidding and attempt to sabotage a Trump Administration the way old man Bush tried to do to Reagan? Forget it.
I wish Cruz would join the Trump team, and IMMEDIATELY. It would be best for everyone, and give Cruz by far his best chance of eventually becoming POTUS.
Still, my bet right now for VP would be Susana Martinez.
Nonsense.
I’ll go with Hunter. Trump doesn’t need a VP pick to bolster him. He needs to get a young up and coming conservative, who’s NOT a hidden member of the establishment like a Ben Sasse or Ted Cruz.
You mean the guy that Dubya publicly declared he hated ? That Bush “errand boy” ? Sen. Cruz is a solid Conservative, hated by the Establishment and by Dubya. The anti-Bush.
