‘Free Republic’ Now A Safe Space for Donald Trump Supporters [Jim's response at post 25]
The Federalist ^ | 05/12/2016 | Robert Tracinski

On the right, we’ve grown to pride ourselves on our greater openness to debate and ideas, on having no need to toe a Politically Correct line or crawl into a “safe space” like pampered college kids who just can’t handle hearing from anyone who disagrees with them.

For myself, I am so personally dedicated to this ideal that I even perform the great personal sacrifice of reading the comments field beneath my articles.

Yet somehow I wasn’t surprised to see Donald Trump supporters, those swaggering tough guys, turn one of their favorite Internet forums into a safe space where they no longer need to encounter criticism or opposition. Earlier today, Free Republic proprietor Jim Robinson announced that the discussion board would no longer tolerate opposition to Trump’s candidacy.

OMG, if the civil war dude is the author, I've had a few back and forths (cordial, but intense) with him about Trump.

My last post to him was a couple of days ago, when the polls came out even.

His account is still here, but he didn't answer my slight taunt (bad shark).

OK, this one tried to double-post the thread, gave a minor opus, and then went bye-bye.

I’ve always wanted to meet a perfect lady.

Just curious, what makes you a perfect lady?

I’m not trying to trip you up - I’d really like to hear what you have to say!

Yep. I was a Cruz guy and not afraid to admit I’ve been critical of Trump. But he won the nomination fair and square and now it’s time to beat the hildebeast..

Thanks-

As has been pointed out previously, there is no perfect conservative. McCain isn't. Romney isn't. TC sure as hell isn't one when it comes to trade. Sarah Palin was pretty close, and look what her own party did to her.

Each of us has a range of beliefs on different subjects. You have to examine the full mosaic before judging a person to be, or not, a "conservative".

No libertarian could ever support Hillary. To do so would completely disqualify them as being a libertarian. And broad-brushing libertarians as idiots is totally unwarranted.

Once again, labels seem to have become completely meaningless, and serve as one-offs when a convenient pejorative is needed.

The meaning of the word libertarian has become just as butchered as that of the word conservative.

One thing for sure: Republicans, Democrats, independents, conservatives and libertarians should all Vote Trump!

I have some deeper insight here. In 2000 I sat next to the 1984 Libertarian Party Presidential Candidate, David Bergland, at a convention dinner. That day, he hosted a seminar on Libertarian Outreach. For fifteen years he had been surveying and analyzing libertarians. He had studied the libertarian mindset with "Keirsey Temperament Sorters" and "Myers–Briggs Type Indicators."

In the seminar he passed around general descriptions of personality types and had the hundreds of individuals pick their self identified personality types. When he asked for a show of hands which choice each person made, almost to a person everyone was a "Rationalist Temperament." David Bergland then told us that Rationals make up only 5% to 7% of the US population. Of that rather small percentage, 80% are Socialists.

Is it any wonder thefederalist.com fans could vote for Hillary?

After that shocking revelation, the outreach consisted of describing how to "turn" that 80% away from Socialism with the emphasis that, although Socialism makes everyone equal, they are equally poor and some will die of oppression when they beg for food.

I must say these numbers reveal the reason the Libertarian Party will always be a nutty fringe party.

I know how you feel. I started this campaign as a Cruz supporter, mainly because of his filibuster. But I always wondered how a Bible-thumping Christian conservative would fare in the general election.

When I want Bible thumping, I’ll go down the road to see Dr. Stanley at FBA. He does it right!

But Bible-thumping in a political campaign? That made me really nervous about our chances to win in November.

When Trump announced, I knew immediately that he was the one.

I’ve been on the Trump train in ever since!

I didn’t choose this screen name to say that I am a perfect lady, but to always remind myself to try and be one. I have a temper, you see. I’m trying to learn how to control it.

I had a lot of exchanges with CEW the last couple of years.

I never had a problem with him, and had some good discussions, even a few through Freepmail.

I wish him well, hopefully he won't go with the #nevertrumpers, he once said (on FR) he would vote for him if Trump won. It would be better if he finally gets the memo: It's Trump or Hillary, and she's simply a terror to behold, almost unthinkable.

Good lad.

With Mittens refusing to support Trump, do you have any 20-20 hindsight regrets about supporting Mittens in 2012?
