The are praying for his victory even if he can't get their accents right
At a campaign rally in Delaware three weeks ago, presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump chose to attack American outsourcing by affecting a cruel caricature of an Indian accent, to the delight of his supporters. Yet his apparent disdain for the people of the worlds second most populous nation doesnt seem to faze a right-wing Indian group that is now praying yes, literally praying for Trumps victory.
A new video released by Reuters captures members of Hindu Sena, a Hindu nationalist political organization, holding a spiritual ritual in the streets of New Delhi, asking Hindu gods to carry the New York City real estate mogul to victory this November. To that end, they lit ritual fires and anointed Trumps forehead (on a poster alongside statues of Hindu deities) with a tilaka, a Hindu spiritual marking.
Going by the statements of Donald Trump, we believe he will be the lone protector of mankind, Vishnu Gupta, Hindu Senas president, told Reuters.
Its not difficult to figure out why right-wing Indians are supporting the Republican candidate from half a world away. Trumps incendiary comments on Islamist extremists and Muslim immigrants echo the sentiments of Indias Hindu nationalist movement, the more radical factions of which have been linked to linked to lethal violence against the countrys Muslim minority.

And besides, 14 people sit down in New Delhi for a protest rally putting a bindi on Trump's forehead, out of a population of 1+ billion people...and THIS IS NEWS??? Desparate.
Then why are you commenting on a desperate news article?
The whole point of the article is that a group of Hindus are supporting Trump - no more, no less. Their support has no bearing on the history of violent religious wars in India outside of them probably not being huge fans of islam. In that, perhaps, we can all agree.
Oh, and it doesn’t mean Trump is trying to suppress Valentine’s Day either.
Be careful who you align yourselves with, or align Donald Trump with and otherwise youll risk showing international ignorance and naivete.

This is all about you being completely hysterical about Trump so that now you conflate him with some extremist group in India. Now, not only is he against Valentine’s Day, he rips up photos of Mother Theresa when no one is looking.
I advise that you lie down in a darkened room with a cool cloth across your brow.
But I have a feeling if Trump was asked about her, he'd say: She was amazing!
Mother Theresa is the is amazing is the default correct answer and you move on.
Something got lost in translation there, FRiend.
I meant to say is for a politician - saying Mother T is great is the default position or it will create a fire storm.
Oh, yes, totally agree. The world fell in on Hitchens’ head when he wrote that book. My mother, very Catholic, agreed with him. Mother Theresa not only took money from Baby & Papa Doc, when told of the theft of their fellow Haitians, refused to return the money. And quite ill, she used the best healthcare that the western world could provide while the sick under her care did not - not even close. Undoubtedly, she did some good in her long career but she was far from perfect. Her nuns run a mission out of Asbury Park, NJ, and they are lovely, indeed.
You are going to get AmericanInTokyo apoplectic.
It doesn’t take much.
Of course, the article clearly says that there are many branches of this nationalist group - not all are murderous nutcases. But he’s so invested in destroying Trump that little factoids like this matter not to him.
I doubt The Donald is even aware of their endorsement. I actually like Hindus. My next door neighbor (actually one house over) invites me for Diwali celebrations.
He thought we were some rubes that did not know stuff about India.
This is why I ignore ex-pats. They’ve lost touch no matter how much they insist they haven’t. And they never realize how liberal they sound, in general.
That’s disingenuous and you know better than that. I said nothing of the sort. I pointed out the Hindu group in question, whom you and others apparently think is great stuff to have them rally for DR, but (they) are in fact some of the lowest scoundrels abd it reflects bad on you and your effort. Isn’t that right? Isn’t that what I said? Don’t attempt to create a straw man argument, or put words in my mouth.
This group is on record of being against Diwali. Aware of that? Face it. You thought this was a nice development but I have pointed out the flgroup to show this is something you should not be associated with.
For those who don’t know the historic meaning of the swastika symbol, here are some references. Some uses go back as far as 7000 years and perhaps even 15,000 years.
“The word swastika comes from the Sanskrit svastika, which means good fortune or well-being.” The motif (a hooked cross) appears to have first been used in Neolithic Eurasia, perhaps representing the movement of the sun through the sky. To this day it is a sacred symbol in Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Odinism.” from the Google page for Swastika.

Yes, of course it was Islamists who attacked the Mumbai Hotel, that is the point I was making. Hindus were rightfully very upset about that which is why they would be supporting Trump.
I am not casting lots with them. If you know human nature - that means while these guys are in the uber extreme of Hindu nationalism - that means down the line of Hindu thinking there are elements they all share and that means Trump’s appeal maybe broader based than we know because of his Muslim message.
