Donald Trump says he may set up a commission to study his immigration policies and his proposed ban on foreign Muslims entering the U.S. The man he may ask to lead the commission is the former New York mayor, Rudy Giuliani, who's called Trump's idea of a Muslim ban unconstitutional.

I suspect he means to study how the anti-American loonies can be circumvented and neutralized; to get them out of the way.
But I don’t know.
One of Trump's specific complaints is that refugees aren't vetted at all, or the vetting is perfunctory and unreliable. A permanent ban on Muslim immigration isn't tenable, but defining parameters for vetting proposed immigrants is.
Why isn’t it tenable to permanently ban Muslims? I think it is.

I wish Mr. Trump would just call a temporary halt to ALL immigration. Problem solved.
Wouldn’t a thorough vetting, especially with cutting way back on immigration into the US, be a de facto ban until the procedure was put in place and the actual vetting happened?

As was the (very successful) immigration policy of the United States from 1925 - 1965.
Too many of them and sympathizers and useful idiots already here, and many of them in positions of power. Eventually that turns into a political force.
However, a critical enough vetting process could work nearly the same as an outright ban that is based on a religious test.
I am not sure what Trump won’t have backpedalled on by the time he is done—and yet he is the best we have.

(1) she openly posted about committing violent jihad on social media,
(2) gave a falsified Pakistani street address, and,
(3) was a Pakistani migrating from Saudi Arabia (an unusual living arrangement for a single Muslim woman).
Malik was screened by (1) US Homeland Security officials, (2) the US State Department, (3) a third screening after applying for a green card, the NY Times reported.
