Just How Divided Is the GOP Over Trump?
Gallup ^ | 05/10/16 | Frank Newport

Posted on 05/10/2016 6:20:39 AM PDT by winoneforthegipper

Producers, editors and reporters have highlighted a "divided Republican Party" motif in their coverage of the presidential race in recent days.

A lot of this came after last Tuesday's Indiana primary and Ted Cruz's and John Kasich's subsequent exit from the race -- and the indisputable fact that some GOP leaders have publicly announced they will either not endorse Donald Trump or will not vote for him.

The Washington Post headlined "Trump Takes the Reins of a Divided GOP," while The Wall Street Journal summarized their "Journal Editorial Report" broadcast as "A Divided GOP" and MSNBC asked: "Can a Party Divided Against Itself Still Stand?"

But what of the rank-and-file Republicans -- those across the country who are not famous leaders of the GOP, but either identify with or lean to the Republican Party?

Here we find a less divided GOP than the headlines and commentary might suggest. Take a look at the accompanying table, summarizing Gallup's latest weekly data on Trump and Hillary Clinton.

Ham Rove was on O’Reilly last night with his pathetic whiteboard showing how the Romney and Bush campaigns handled their R attrition and D crossovers. The numbers were quite similar with Bush getting a point or two more in crossover than Mitt.

His larger point was Trump can’t win (shocking prediction considering the source) because he’s losing a much larger percentage of Rs than the others. No mention about Independants or crossovers which he knows full well is significant and in all probability will more than offset R defection.

The divide is between the citizens and those who are owned by The Cheap Labor Express.

Simple decision: Are you on the side of the rule of law and the citizens?

Vote Trump.

If you are in favor of never-ending illegal alien inundation, don’t vote Trump.

Lurkinanloomin :" Simple decision: Are you on the side of the rule of law and the citizens? "

Yes , I want The United States to be united to defeat globalism , and unrestrained government encroachment of my "God given" civil rights.
I want the United States to be successful, and return to an open an free republic, contrary to the actions of the Fed.gov. over the last decade .
Globalism and a borderless society is not a country; it is an invitation to plunder language, finances, and culture.

What I hate the most about the #nevertrump crowd is their blatant dishonesty and double standards. They pretend that their objections to Trump are due to his lack of ideological purity on any number of boilerplate conservative issues. That might be a fair criticism, if it weren't for the fact that these same people had absolutely no problem with the liberalism of Romney, McCain, "Compassionate Conservative" George W, etc.

It's only when voters rather than the RNC higher-ups pick a candidate that these frauds suddenly become ideological purists. When one of their candidates governs like a Democrat, there's never a complaint.

And you just made his point for him. Hint: Save your fire for the enemy. She wears a pantsuit. . .

Sorry, the Cruz supporters have to stop fighting the primary wars, the primary is over.

It is ?? Funny, I don’t see the delegate count over 1237.

This isn’t about Cruz, or anyone else. This is about hyperpartisan behavior that has continued WELL past any need for it. . .

Hint 2: Pissing off allies you’re going to need later, is not a smart idea. And if you think it IS a good idea, you should talk to President Romney. . .

Hint 3: The nomination is not final until the vote in Cleveland. While Trump is the presumptive nominee, he cannot possibly BE the nominee until the votes are cast.

Words have meaning. . .

I have a theory...

A candidate who people are voting FOR will always win.

Our last two races were primarily anti-Obama. Few on the Republican side were really excited to vote for McCain or Romney. Not because they weren’t conservative enough - an argument for another time - but because they were BORING! They were the vanilla pudding of politicians. While we may have disagreed with Obama, you have to admit he fired up a lot of people.

This election the tables have turned. While there is some ginned-up enthusiasm for electing a woman president, I think many Democrats don’t want Hillary to be the FIRST woman president. The rank and file D’s are very tepid this time around.

Prediction - enthusiasm wins - Trump in 2016.

It isn’t divided. There is a carcinogenic arm of the GOP (GOPe) that needs amputation. The rest of the body is just fine.
