With a serious purpose, demeanor, and policy.
He has a strong economic-growth plan. He just told CNBC, "We are lowering taxes very substantially and we're going to be getting rid of a tremendous amount of regulations."
On trade, he needs a coherent message that rules out protectionism. In his recent foreign-policy speech he talked up negotiations. The master of the art of the deal would be very good at that when it comes to trade. There's no need for huge tariffs. The goal here is to tear down foreign trade barriers and make China and others play by the rules.
And rather than trade wars and currency manipulation (which includes the U.S.), the world economic system should be anchored by stable and cooperative exchange-rate policies.
On immigration, Trump needs an articulate policy that aims to secure the border and keep out illegals while letting in skilled legal workers. Voters prefer a path to legality (not necessarily citizenship) rather than deportation. And Trump - a cost-conscious business executive - must translate that into curbing the cronyist federal-government leviathan.
There are other issues. But my key thought is that Trump can win by showing a consistent seriousness of purpose and demeanor while advancing pro-growth economic policies and a more realistic national-security strategy. He knows, as Reagan did, that success at home leads to success abroad.
Mrs. Clinton is a weak candidate. Now Donald Trump must show that he can get the job done. He has the potential for great leadership. The whole world is watching. I believe he can do it.

“With a serious purpose, demeanor, and policy.”
When did that become a prerequisite? To which one of the idiotically smirking Bushes or leering Clintons did this apply? When was this required of the slack jawed Obama?
I believe he can do it, too..
Strange, I can not recall the media asking 8 years ago if Obama needed to prove he could do the job? With his “community organizer” background one would think it was a legitimate question.
Maybe Mr. Kudlow has read the book, and is wondering about what Trump actually is saying.
Trump has been running 500+ corporations, domestic and foreign, for decades.
Total bankruptcies: 4
if only the US govt ran so well.
he is more qualified to assume the office then any person i can remember.
American companies moving plants offshore to exploit cheap labor for products intended to be sold in America are not engaging in "trade." They're engaged in ripping us off.
Just as Obumbler had to prove that he could do the job - serious double standards
Exactly right. Obama was the least qualified individual ever elected, and the Lame Stream Media gave him a pass on his lack of credentials.
And by the way, He has been a magnificent failure when it comes to on-the-job-training too. Not that any of the chattering classes would dare to mention it.
” Trump Must Prove that He Can Do the Job “
gee it’s too bad Obama was not asked to ‘prove he could do the job ‘ BEFORE they gave him the office .
Trump is vastly , repeat VASTLY , more competent than
Obama is , was , or could ever hope to be .
If a pot smoking street punk from Honolulu could end up being Preezy , how much better a self made man like Donald Trump ?
I have a big heart for Larry Kudlow. That said, this is the most annoying, senseless, illogical, artogant and pointless headline I have read in ten years
‘prove that he can do the job’??!! Hardly- obammy has proven beyond the shadow of a doubt that anyone can sit in the Oval Office and pretend to be president.
Beat me to it. Why should Trump have to prove anything? Obama sure didn’t. Obama has done more damage to this country than any other president in history. The media is so biased it can’t help itself.
Did they asked same questions when Obama was running?
So many towers and completed business projects throughout the world serve as testaments to Trump’s ability to ‘do the job’.
So kudlow should stfu about how Trump must prove he can do the job.
I’m sure kudlow won’t make the same demand of hillary, bernie, biden, and fauxcahotas.
To be fair, a lot of companies are moving offshore because of *non-wage* regulatory issues - such as ridiculous over-regulation, union labor ‘kwalitee’ and the like. Not to dismiss the fact that many companies are moving offshore for wage reasons, of course.
“On trade, he needs a coherent message that rules out protectionism”
That’s what Kudlow wants. I want tariffs. I want the same tariffs and barriers that other nations impose on us. if they want low or none, then they must offer it to us.
I’m enjoying all these pundits saying what Trump MUST do. They still just don’t get it.
The way to do it is cut those regulations, cut government and cut taxes, including cutting corp taxes. And that’s what Trump is proposing.
