Donald Trump launched his presidential campaign promising to build a border wall to stop illegal immigrants and Hispanic rights advocates say Republicans will now reap the pain of having him as their partys nominee.
Americas Voice, a leading immigration advocacy group, said Republicans are facing a moment of truth. Other organizations predicted that Hispanic voters will be eager to punish Mr. Trump for his rhetoric and the party as a whole for nominating him.
The Republican Party is about to run into a force more powerful than their hatred the power of the love of families and communities standing together, said Kica Matos, director of immigrant rights at the Center for Community Change.
On the other side are Hispanic Republican leaders who fear exactly what has come to pass. They say Mr. Trump has a lot of work to do even to get Hispanics in his own party to back him up.
I cannot support him, I cannot campaign for him, I cannot vote for him, Alfonso Aguilar, executive director of the Latino Partnership for Conservative Principles, told The Washington Times.
Having said that, I am taking a pause and just seeing how this evolves, and considering all the things that the country is facing, all the things that are at stake in this election I am willing to see if Mr. Trump evolves on a number of issues. I hope that he revises his views on immigration and if that is the case I would be willing to consider reconsidering my position, he said.
Hispanics are one of the fastest-growing demographics in the American electorate, and Republican nominees have lost a share of that vote in the past two presidential elections, from about 40 percent in 2004 to 31 percent in 2008 and 27 percent in 2012.

Aw, Darn.
The GOP lost its long and vast constituency of La Raza, MECh, Aztlan members?
Gee, Next they will be telling us Jose Guiterrez isn’t going to vote Republican either.
On the other hand, patriotic Americans of Hispanic ancestry; ones whose families have been here for centuries, or who earned their citizenship the hard way more recently, should be happy to vote for someone who will protect their nation from invasion.
Yes, he won the Latino Republican vote by 45% to 27%. (In article, not the graphic)
The Republican Party's power of the love of families and communities standing together is why Donald Trump plans to keep out illegal immigrants and other, worse criminals. We either have a country or we do not. We must enforce our immigration laws to protect legal immigrants and the citizens of the USA.
Kica Matos should learn the difference between legal immigration and illegal immigration. Kica Matos should find out how many illegal immigrants are convicted criminals of rape and murder, and what percentage of inmates that they represent.
Kica should identify the policy of the Center for Community Change to protect legal immigrants and citizens of the USA from crime and chaos caused by illegal immigration, and get the facts straight on what it means to be a citizen of the USA.
Hispanics are like everyone else, they are not cookie cutters. The Hispanics I know support Trump, and they tell me the ones that don’t are for open border, illegal immigration. Hmmm that seems to be true for others that don’t support Trump.
I have to admit I had no idea how strong the open borders/illegal immigration supporters are, they are determined to dig in their heels.
We will have a fight on our hands but we have to fight to win, because if we don’t win we will lose our country.
Interesting that at the Trump rally yesterday, there were Hispanics
Across the street with the protestors, nada Hispanics. Nada people of any color except white.
This is quality ground level Intel. Good job.
For the dem’s, “winter is coming”.
Like these guys were going to vote GOP anyway!
Agreed...Well said!
West Coast, East Coast, we all have some minor differences.
Except for Whites, that is considered racist.
Thanks for your report.
They don’t like Hillary, protested her speech in CA with Mexican flags and posters that said Make America Mexico. They should just go back to their countries now, no need to wait.
Reagan was famous for tearing down the wall, and frankly he started this whole amnesty thing, but when I was a kid good neighbors had good fences.
I was known to hop a few
Possible is a loooooooooooooooooooooobg was from “probable” and Trump knows THE ART OF THE DEAL! Obviously YOU don’t. He was being evasive.
IMO, the LEGAL Hispanic immigrants aren’t as much against Trump as are the ILLEGALS....
The legal immigrants worked to get into America LEGALLY and have no respect for those who did not...
One thing Trump is on top of is Nailing Mexico for the plight of her citizens.
Ol Vincente is playing kissy coolo
Like everywhere the high density cities have hard core leftists, communists even, however Mexico itself doesn't have enough "other people's money" to fund any socialism. For the most part taxes and government spending are low, freedom is high, and the people are family oriented, religious, and conservative. The ones that want socialism come to America where the standard of living on welfare is automatically higher than working two jobs in Mexico.
