Britain braced for a ban on second homes: (trunc)
Daily Mail UK ^ | 07 May 2016 | Victoria Finan and Lucy Crossley

Councils across the UK are set to consider banning people who already own homes from buying holiday cottages after a historic vote yesterday.

More than 80 per cent of voters in St Ives, Cornwall, backed proposals that will mean new housing developments will only get planning permission if homes there are reserved for full-time residents.

And now councils in the Lake District, Derbyshire Dales, north Devon and the Isle of Wight are all looking at schemes to prevent outsiders buying holiday homes.

But ministers are poised to oppose the ban, saying it could be regarded as unfair and discriminatory.

Tory MP Mark Garnier told The Times: 'The only home I own is in St Ives but I live in rented properties elsewhere. Would it be considered as a second home?

'I worry that it is discriminatory - that one person can buy a home but another can't.'

the next thing the communists will target will be people with too much home.

It will be like Dr Zhivago coming to life.

During the Russian revolution Yuri (Dr. Zhivago) serves as a battlefield doctor. After the war, he returns to Moscow to find that his wife
Tonya, son Sasha, and father-in-law Alexander are living in one room of their spacious home. He learns that the Soviet authorities have
confiscated the home, converted it into a makeshift tenement, and filled it up with other people who show open resentment of Yuri's family.

A government that can restrict home ownership can restrict or demand anything it wishes. It’s called statism. And it’s coming to America

Heck, the next thing you know they will be forcing us to let grown men into the bathroom with our little daughters and punishing regular people
who won't rent or sell their homes to sexual perverts !!!

I lack the words to describe the rage I’d be consumed with if I was in Yuri’s situation. And it is probably best that way!

OMG!! Take me to the nearest reeducation camp. I’m a multiple criminal. I’m single, live in a 2,400 sq. Ft. House with two large dogs, one half pit and the other a Great Dane, drive a Navigator, and, before the TBA, owned a number of guns, including “assault rifles.”

More likely about lost tax revenue from people owning homes, but not living in the community to pay sales taxes and such.

The left is always about separating the assets of the wallet from the person.

I was alone in a nine room house for five years.

I never looked back after I sold and downsized.

The people who own vacation homes actually carry far more than the cost. It's called local school costs. The full year residents send their kids to the local schools, while the part time residents send theirs to other schools, meaning the locals make a pot of tax revenues off the temporaries.

I have a relative that teaches on Martha’s Vineyard.

The schools are VERY well funded.

That’s not how schools are funded in Britain. They don’t use our property tax scheme for funding of schools. Landlords can pay property taxes but they don’t go to the local community.
