It's the stuff of mafia lore -- a doomed target thrown into the depths of the ocean, with his feet encased in cement. And yet, on an unseasonably cool morning in Brooklyn, a body with so-called "cement shoes" washed ashore this week, igniting the mystery of who committed the crime, and why. Authorities have identified the body as that of a 28-year-old suspected gang member named Peter Martinez.
Martinez was found wrapped in "black plastic bags, his arms were tied behind him, and his feet were submerged in poured concrete," said New York Police Chief of Department Robert Boyce. Martinez' head, including his mouth and nostrils, were covered in tape, Lt. Thomas Antonetti said. Tattoos of an 8-ball and a Virgin Mary with a rose, among several others, assisted in identifying Martinez.

The fishes threw him back.
Helped by someone pouring concrete that Americans wouldn’t pour, no doubt.
Concrete shoes = custom made shoes, feels good!
It’s that dang re-bar that hurts the bunions!
In a way, sure. As innocent bystanders don't typically wind up with their feet in five-gallon buckets of cement, I'd guess the late Petey "Crack" Martinez made a conscious decision to piss off the wrong people thereby ensuring his demise. I'd also bet that Mr. Crack knew full well the consequences of pissing off such people.
A little more dramatic and drawn-out but not really much different than putting a gun to his own head.
"....nuttenz to see ears,..moves along, moves along"
OTOH, maybe they (or "he", if it's Arkancide), could only get "light" concrete.
There were even cement ships used during WW I, as I recall.
That from a milk commercial?
Peter “The Buoy” Martinez.
Not a Witch !!
LOL don’t mess with the mob...the message comes across one more time.
If its hollowed out and don’t leak it will float
kinda basic
The breakwalls at Arromanches used to create Port Winston for the D Day invasion were giant ice-cube mold shaped concrete boats towed into place and then sunk end to end. They were designed to last 4 years. When I was there in ‘87, I think there were still 15 visible from land.
Dunno
It looks like his hair exploded.
If the weight is heavier than the water displaced, then the object will sink.
SaltWater weighs about 64.1lbs/cuft
Concrete weighs about 150lbs/cuft
A 200lb human displaces about 3.25 cuft of water.
If bloated, say twice the volume, say 6.6cuft
6.6 cuft x 64.1 lbs /cuft = say 423 lbs.
If he weighed 200 lbs and they placed him in 1 cuft concrete , say 150lb + 200 lbs = 350lbs , so he’d still have 70 lbs of buoyancy.
So he might have sank initially, but later decomposition created gases in the body, which filled up the plastic bags wrapping the body and he later became buoyant.
Fun in the sun down at the seashore.
I remember a scene from a book I read years ago, in which a guy is dropped into the East River with cement shoes, but the killers put a scuba tank on the victim and taped the mouthpiece in, so the victim would have an hour or so to think things over.
Even more horrible.
