Like father, like son: Poppy Bush looked the American people square in the eye and said, "Read my lips: no new taxes." Of course, the former Director of Central Intelligence welshed, because lying is what he did for a living. Now comes his son Jeb, who raised his hand and pledged to support the eventual nominee of the Republican party in the race for president, back when he thought he had a chance. Naturally, the chip off the old block has reneged.
In a Facebook post, Bush announced that he could not in good conscience vote for Donald Trump, saying Trump has not demonstrated the temperament or strength of character needed to lead the United States. In doing so, Bush became the latest member of his family to publicly refuse to back the real estate magnate. He also is the second former presidential candidate, along with Lindsey Graham, to break the pledge all the candidates made, back in the fall of 2015, to support the eventual nominee. The pledge, of course, was designed to keep Trump from bolting the GOP and launching a third-party bid, which the RNC feared would scuttle the GOPs chances of winning the general election. So far, no one seems too concerned that a Bush/Graham third-party ticket could do the same.
In Sam Peckinpah's masterpiece, The Wild Bunch, two outlaws played by William Holden and Ernest Borgnine have a brief but telling exchange about a man's word and what it means. Hardly surprising that there was more honor in this rum crew of dead-end bandits than there is in the entire Bush family. If Trump does nothing else, destroying the unaccountable hold the Bushes have had on the GOP and the country should earn him the thanks of a grateful nation. And if he can destroy the Clintons, too... bonus.
Thanks, my FRiend!
Trump destroyed their family’s political future, so I’m sure they’re not happy about that. Their non-endorsement of Trump helps further distance the party from their bad legacy.
Does Jeb Bush’s Word Mean Anything?
“Read my lips; no new taxes” - George H. W. Bush
I never thought of them as financially corrupt so much as eager to betray conservatives, but it is both, isn’t it?
That is a fabulous endorsement from them.
Trump should be proud.
Don’t need them anyways.
Both deeply...they became ridiculously rich from public “service”
Lyin' Ted
Lyin' Lindsey
Lyin' Ryan
Rinsed Penis can be proud.
"Apparently" which relates to conclusions indicated by appearances and 'seeming.'
"Evidently" which relates to conclusions based on logic and follow from facts.
This 'man of his word problem' is an "Evidently" thing ...
“He was a good governor of Florida”
Terry Shaivo would disagree, if she could.
The first Bush is the worst
Tossed Reagans agenda the first day
Reagans biggest mistake
I had forgotten about that. Yes he is a total prat.
not one of these career Republican’s word means a thing. They are embarrassing to the Republican party.
This man was once my governor.
And now he is a man without honor.
What a juvenile hissy fit!
Actually, you all do realize that most of these dorks (Jeb Bush and his ilk) will eventually climb aboard the Trump Train, right?
They'll want to switch to the winning team at the last moment. And the winning team happens to be magnitudes more conservative than they are.
But they certainly will be left out in the cold if they don't...
The Revolution is ON!
Vote Trump!
What a brooding bunch of thin-skinned LIARS.
NO MORE BUSHES or CLINTONS!
I was watching various pundits talking about it today, not one thought the former candidates breaking their pledge was any big deal. Just politics as usual. Which explains why Trump is winning, and why they don’t get it.
Trump openly exposes the hypocrisy of the Bushes and GOPe.
The entire Bush family will convene this Mothers Day and enjoy a buffet of Tea & Sympathy followed by extra large portions of Crow, served cold.
SHOULD reflect on the lies they told from “Read my Lips,” Pappy, to allowing Bin Laden’s plane to fly after 911, Dubya, and the oath to support the Republican Nominee, Jebito.
Does it even occur to them that they have lied their country for 25 years?
This, this? is considered conservative? This is considered more righteous than the will of the people in the country that they purportedly love and from whom they have profited?
Well, they are rich and apparently can afford the best drugs and faith handlers that money can buy. Money from the tax payers for lo this two and a half decades.
