After Donald Trump secured the Republican nomination on Tuesday night, the BBC rounded up the reactions from the global press to Trump's victory. Aside from some gloating in authoritarian Russia and China, the reaction was pretty shocked.
"The craziest US presidential election campaign begins," Germany's Die Welt daily wrote. "The unthinkable has come to pass."

I just knew it had to be a socialist/communist place, or former one-are you even allowed to grow a garden and keep livestock for your own food?
Exactly. I don’t care for Trump, except for fact he is not likely to call the Liberals trying to cut his throat “my esteemed colleagues across the aisle”.
He may call them a bunch of vipers...which I have been begging someone to do, because that is what they are.
Yes. They can garden and keep rabbits I know, but not sure about the other stuff. She loved eating coon, possum, deer, gator, mullet, and squirrel while here. She was born in the wrong country.
everyone of these blood sucking leaches from other countries are worried that their handouts will be cut. Putin is looking forward in working with Donald Trump to settle Syria. Obama has refused to sit down with Russia twin now to stop the blood shed. Jimmy Carter has stepped into to provide information to Putin before Russia came to Syria’s aid.
Well, at least people won’t starve if the commie government goes the way of Venezuela-lots of yummy recipes for rabbit...
Charges of genocide by population replacement should be brought against the European socialist cartel, particularly in occupied Sweden and Germany.
And He will put an end to all this nonsense.
Laugh it up, Obama, while you build your idol to Sodom and Gomorrah as a “National Monument”.
Laugh now, for He Who sits on the throne laughs, too.
And He always gets the last laugh.
It has great merit.
Yup.
The difference is that the Russians were terrified of Reagan. Putin is rooting for Trump. I suspect the reason is that he thinks Trump will piss off our allies and make it easy for Russia to isolate the US diplomatically and push its own agenda.
Logic follows that you should be a Trump advocate.
That may well be. My feeling is...one thing at a time, because we will be lucky to get that.
Most people fear change. This what we need to clean house and start fresh.
From a personality perspective, the way he treats people, the way he presents himself...I just have a visceral dislike for him.
But my like or dislike of him personally is less important to me than the dislike he engenders in my enemies, which is a positive indicator of his suitability (in my eyes) as a candidate.
If Obama and his ilk take the time to comment on Trump’s unsuitability, then that is enough for me to pull the lever for Trump immediately and without reservation, given the extreme and utter distaste and disdain I have for them.
At best, he might be a ruthless and politically incorrect businessman in the White House. At worst, he is utterly incompetent and inept, which would be absolutely no change from the current situation, except that being incompetent and inept, he wouldn’t be deliberately trying to undermine the foundations of what makes America...America.
And if Trump pisses off liberals and RINOs in the bargain, calls them names and ridicules them...even better.
I see it as a win-win no matter what.
We better do some changing soon, or we are sunk.
We may already be sunk. But until the ship actually begins going to pieces on the rocks, there is always the hope that we may in some way avoid the rocks.
Im supposed to listen to Germany on how to run a country?
Don’t think so.
Enjoy your Rapeugees!
