GOP senator [Sasse] calls for 'adult' third-party candidate
The Hill ^ | 05/05/2016 | Jesse Byrnes

Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) is calling for a third-party presidential candidate to emerge, saying there is no reason to believe that either of the two national front-runners "believe in limiting anything about DC's power."

The conservative senator late Wednesday issued the call in a letter on Facebook to "the majority of Americans" who wonder why the U.S. "can't find a healthy leader who can take us forward together." "With Clinton and Trump, the fix is in. Heads, they win; tails, you lose. Why are we confined to these two terrible options? This is America. If both choices stink, we reject them and go bigger," Sasse wrote.

"Why shouldn't America draft an honest leader who will focus on 70% solutions for the next four years? You know...an adult?" Sasse added.

Sasse envisions a candidate who hasn't spent their life in politics, "either buying politicians or being bought." He also wants a candidate to serve for only one term "as a care-taker problem-solver for this messy moment."

Sasse, the father of three kids, indicated he's not interested in being that candidate himself, arguing for someone who can campaign around the clock through November.

"Although I'm one of the most conservative members of the Senate, I'm not interested in an ideological purity test, because even a genuine consensus candidate would almost certainly be more conservative than either of the two dishonest liberals now leading the two national parties," he added.

Sasse is one of few leading Republicans who have indicated that they will never support Trump as the nominee and signaled in February that if Trump becomes the presumptive GOP nominee, as the businessman has this week, he'd look for a third-party alternative.

Unfortunately. This idiot isn’t up until 2020.

Sasse is an example of one of the reasons why people are coming out in droves to support Trump. He's a pompous insider and want's to keep the clubhouse door locked to anyone else. He's why we need a Trump to clean house in DC.

But detailing what his dream third party candidate would be reminds me of the story of the gold rush days in California. A lonely miner writes to a catalog store in Chicago detailing his list of characteristic he wished for in his perfect woman. He was looking for in a mail order bride and could they please send such a women to his camp? Well, he waited and waited and waited but no bride showed up. So he wrote again, asking why his "perfect" bride hadn't shown up yet.

"Dear Sir", the catalog store wrote back. "No such woman exists."

"Dear Sasse, no such candidate exists"

It should be noted that Ben Sasse was supported in his election bid by the Senate Conservatives Fund.

Which is why I'll never give them another cent.

The GOP establishment hasn’t done a thing to limit Washington’s overreach, right?

I’ve heard them keep on making excuses for their inability to stop Obama’s agenda.

If Sasse and his fellow morons had spent as much time doing that as they’ve been fighting Trump, our country wouldn’t be in the mess its in.

And I have no intention of voting for their so-called third party candidate.

If #NeverTrumpers want to vote for Hillary, that’s their call. But they should stop fooling us with the talk that an electable alternative exists to Trump.

Nicely said. Can I use this letter, copy it, and send it to Sen Sasse? It says just what I feel, and I vote!

Sadly, I think that the ticket will be Biden/Warren at the last minute.

If they actually do that, Trump will get a lot of cross over votes from the discarded, but very competitive Sanders voters. Not because they want Trump, but they'll be teaching THEIR 'Pee a lesson too.

Sasse should be expelled from the GOP Caucus in the in Senate for refusing to support the GOP presidential ticket which will include the GOP candidate for “president of the senate” (the Vice President), who presides over the Senate in certain circumstances and casts tie-breaking votes. By taking this position, Sasse is actively helping Hillary Clinton and is actively undermining GOP control of the Senate.

Have you read Sasse’s resume? He is a government / philosophy major who worked for about a year for a consulting firm. Apart from that, he has not held a private sector job in his life. Some authority on being an “adult”.

Remember when the GOP Establishment made Trump sign a pledge to support the GOP nominee?

Sasse is one of few leading Republicans who have indicated that they will never support Trump as the nominee

From what I've seen on MSNBC, CNN and FOX this is the ONLY type of Republican... Each network has showcased people THIS MORNING who will NEVER back Trump.

It's a total mystery how Trump won the primaries considering everyone was against him... (Well, except for 'the people') and who the hell in DC cares about them, right?

Here's my suggestion... all the Trump haters should form their own party and run Jeb Bush - who has the 'right tone' ... McCain can be his VP . Here's what we know: that party will get massive positive press coverage...So go for it elites, start your own party.

From your lips to God’s ears.....but I think that they will try to assuage the Sander’s supporters with Warren and will make Bernie a very public offer that he can’t refuse...such as Education secretary pick, or some such thing. Then Bernie will sign off and everyone will be happy.

That being said, I really hope you are right.

The Republican Party has a great disconnect with we, the people. Great opportunity to term limit at the ballot box all elected officials who have overstayed their position. Dump congress, nothing lost anymore since the Republicans are publicly espousing their lack of support for their nominee and the potential future president of the United States. Fortenberry is first on my list. Never thought I would support term limits, that said, I will not support Ben Sasse again until he grows up and stops throwing public hissy fits! Repeat-public hissy fits!

Term limits give MORE power to the bureaucracy that runs DC... and THAT group is totally liberal. It was a good idea in theory but NOT in practice. Too many weird incentives to untangle.

What we need to do is start electing people who share OUR values - NOT the values of out of touch elites. No more electing people just because they have an "R" by their name.

No more Lindsey Grahams...

No more CHEAP LABOR EXPRESS.

Oops, sorry there - missed ‘at the ballot box’...

We need to slowly vote every Republican OUT OF OFFICE who stands with the CHEAP LABOR EXPRESS and those who sell out American jobs for FAT DONATIONS to their campaigns in exchange for signing on to bad trade deals.
