Former U.S. Sen. Bob Bennett, of Utah, who shied away from the spotlight but earned a reputation as someone who knew how to get things done in Washington, has died. He was 82.
Bennett assistant Tara Tanner said he died Wednesday from complications of pancreatic cancer and a recent stroke.
The Republican was first elected in 1992 and was widely seen at home as politically moderate, which at times put him at odds with Utahs highly conservative Republican base. His middle-of-the-road reputation led to his ouster in 2010 at the state convention by delegates fueled by tea party anger.

Was this not the same Bob Bennett from the 90’s wrote an impactful book to which Rush used to refer?
Different Bennett. You're thinking of William J. (Bill) Bennett (no relation) -- author of The Book of Virtues.
RIP.
Please, don't let this happen to our other beloved senators.
Another clueless keyboard warrior. Did you know him? Or his family? Do you have any idea what he did in his life? Certainly more than you. You’re an ass.
Heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with his family...
RIP, but glad Mike Lee ousted him.
The founder of Keller’s Hamburgers passed away yesterday from the same ailment. Sad.
He drove a Prius.
Yes, that is it. Thank you.
I just heard this, RIP.
Ex-Sen. Conrad Burns died recently as well (Thursday, April 28th). He is certainly missed.
I didn’t hear about Burns either. RIP. Good man, shame that scum Tester “beat” him in 2006.
Nice little frame job by some Just-Us Department hacks to get an innocent man. Should’ve been some long prison stretches for those that brought him down and the same pukes that got Sen. Ted Stevens. A nice calculated effort that helped pay off for Emperor Zero to get his “60.”
Utah Gov Poll (Dan Jones) clashes with the results of the GOP convention
Governor Gary Herbert 74%
Jonathan Johnson 19%
