A criminal complaint filed in federal court Wednesday offers new details about the kidnapping and killing of 11-year-old Ashlynne Mike.
Authorities were led to Tom Begaye, 27, by a tip from one of his neighbors, according to the indictment.
Begaye told authorities he was looking for a child to have sex with Monday afternoon and picked up Ashlynne and Ian Mike, who were playing in a ditch near their home.
Ashlynne had injured her foot and agreed to get in Begayes car to get a ride.
He took her to a desolate dirt road near the Ship Rock pinnacle, where authorities say he raped her and beat her with a tire iron. He then let her younger brother Ian Mike go, according to the complaint.
Begaye was charged with murder and kidnapping and faces a minimum of 20 years in prison.
In a hearing at the Farmington Municipal Courthouse Wednesday morning, a federal prosecutor requested that Begaye should remain in jail until a hearing on Friday, and U.S. Magistrate Judge Paul Briones agreed.

This slimeball needs the death penalty, which the Feds have. Other news outlets say when he returned without the girl but with the tire iron the brother ran for two miles toward the lights from town until he encountered a motorist who notified police. The girl's body was found by family members on ATV's during the morning search.

Sounds like the perp’s last name was slightly misspelled.
It’s things like this that make me doubt I’ll ever be able to fulfill Jesus’ command to forgive and love. Not because I couldn’t force myself to do it, but because, Dear God, I don’t want to.
The slime ball needs life imprisonment, in a prison block where he will get passed around from prisoner to prisoner, like a pack of cigarettes.
I make the same confession !
I couldn’t believe it. It is absolutely insanely criminal for the law to decide that he could get a minimum of 20 years.
We need street justice, when he gets out, followed by Jury Nullification of whoever implements said street justice.
Beating to death, this piece of filth, with a tire iron after hungry dogs removing his offensive ‘weapon’ might be just.....but then again too short a punishment.
There are no words...
me too
I fear I'vm becoming desensitized by too much reading about this kind of horror.
I hope the guy gets life without the possibility of parole, if that sentence exists in NM. Either that or a bullet in the head.
I mention "life" as preferable, only because this man evidently has a deformed conscience: did you notice he told his neighbor he was going out looking for a child to have sex with? I think they call it a "depraved-heart" crime when the criminal shows himself as inwardly monstrous as this man.
Life imprisonment would give him more time, maybe, (unless the other inmates promptly beat him to death) to re-form his de-formed mind. To deny that this is even possible, would be to deny that Jesus is Our Lord and Our God.
This depraved criminal needs to repent and atone for his most repulsive, cruel, hideous, inhuman crime. It is better to suffer here than hereafter.
If life-without-possibility-of-parole doesn't exist in NM, then I must say he needs to be shot.
May the Lord make the little Navajo girl glorious in His Kingdom.
Its things like this that make me doubt Ill ever be able to fulfill Jesus command to forgive and love. Not because I couldnt force myself to do it, but because, Dear God, I dont want to.

Best I can manage is a disconnect. That disconnect would still allow me to put a couple of pills in the back of the guy’s head. Carrying out the trash does not require anger towards garbage. It is just maintenance. Less than ideal, I know, but that is the best I could manage.
I literally couldn’t be the judge in this case. I’d shoot the bastard dead myself from the bench.
I don’t know how the cops restrain themselves. I do notice he’s wearing a bulletproof vest in his mug shot. The cops probably put it on him for their own protection.
How can anyone be opposed to the death penalty? I really do not understand that at all.
It’s tough, but then I look at my life....
OUCH!
God will met out Divine Justice on those who deserve it. Of that I have no doubt. If we all took a step back and looked at our own lives objectively, we’d see we were without a doubt worthy of the same punishment this vile scum deserves though.
Do it from under his chin, while looking him straight in the eyes.
