Stung by Donald Trumps assertion that as president he would get Pakistan to release in two minutes the doctor who the U.S. says helped to track down Osama bin Laden, a Pakistani minister said Monday his country was not a U.S. colony and dismissed U.S. aid as peanuts.
Contrary to Mr. Trumps misconception, Pakistan is not a colony of the United States of America, Interior Minister Chaudry Nisar Khan said in a statement.
Shakil Afridi is a Pakistani citizen, and nobody else has the right to dictate to us about his future, Khan said. He should learn to treat sovereign countries with respect.
Afridis fate, he said, would be decided by the Pakistani courts and the government of Pakistan and not by Mr. Donald Trump, even if he becomes the president of the United States.
In an appearance on Fox News last week, the Republican presidential frontrunner was asked whether as president he would get Afridi released.
I think I would get him out in two minutes. I would tell them, Let him out and Im sure theyd let him out, he said. Because we give a lot of aid to Pakistan. We give a lot of money to Pakistan.
Trump said the Pakistanis have no respect for President Obama, and that they, like others, just take us for a bunch of suckers.
If the aid we provide Pakistan amounts to peanuts, then I guess we are giving them too much. How about ZERO $$$$?
How impressive is that? Cut off aid? When that doesn't work then what?
I hear there is a shortage of Lithium Deuteride in Pakistan.
okay, no more peanuts for you!
Stop the money, and just send them a barrel of peanuts.
Actually Pakistan is a US enemy. Be grateful for the peanuts. I wish we had a Putin in charge of our gift department.
Work for what? They had OBL a short distance from their military academy for years while they were getting aid from us. I do not see much downside to stopping it.
Peanuts? Don’t give the muzzies a dime
Jihad Watch:
Since 2001 the United States has tried virtually every strategy available to persuade Pakistans army to take the threat of militancy more seriously, but 12 years and $28 BILLION in aid later, all the American approaches are widely viewed as having failed.
Getting that doctor back in two minutes or less.
They had OBL a short distance from their military academy for years while they were getting aid from us. I do not see much downside to stopping it.
I'm mildly surprised that they're still getting aid as well.
lol
OK we’ll spread out that $1.5B to US taxpayers(ONLY) then:-)
Or as Toonces Fredo Dogeater would say, Pahk-ee-stahn .
Say,isn’t that where where his college boyfriend was from?
I think that getting the doctor out of jail would be easy. Getting them to stop backing the Taliban would probably be much harder.
How?
Getting them to stop backing the Taliban would probably be much harder.
No argument there.
I don’t think it is worth much to them to keep him in jail. I have noticed that muslims tend to talk a lot of trash but shut up when actually confronted with something like losing a significant chunk of change. What the minister said does not cost him anything and makes him look good to their people. He knows Obama will do nothing and neither will Hillary if she wins. I suspect he will change his tune if they are actually looking at losing the money. If not, just cut them off. The doctor will not be any more in jail if we do.
Pakistan’s been playing us for decades.
Maybe Trump will put an end to it.
And how will giving in to U.S. threats go over with the populace?
I suspect they would not be consulted or informed about it. I suspect there are a lot of things going on that would not go over big with the populace if they knew about it. I think one of our main supply routes into Afghanistan goes through Pakistan. I doubt that is publicized much there. I suspect that most of their populace would probably not be good with that if they knew about it. The point is that there has been no real pressure applied by us to get the doctor released as far as I know. I don’t get the impression that Obama gives a hoot about him. I think the Paks may give in if there were some pressure applied.
The pakis can have their crummy, flea-infested moozlum country. India will take care of the soon enough.
Well, Trump has said we can’t waste a dollar.
