Ted Cruz, in his outsiders bid for the White House, has depended heavily on the largesse of just three wealthy donors to establish credibility and stay afloat amid a chaotic nominating process that killed off most of his rivals.
Now, at perhaps the most desperate moment in his quest to win the Republican nomination, Cruz is learning the perils of relying on strong-willed magnates who carry their own agendas and have demanded an unprecedented level of control in how their money is spent. ...

I think that when people want “campaign finance reform,” it is because of situations like this.
Who believes that Cruz is *not* bought and paid for? And that he *won’t* do the bidding of powerful interests?
Trumps political contributions: Republicans Democrats 1989-2011 $497,690 $581,350 2012-present $463,450 $3,500
It’s such a ridiculous argument they make.
These political donations are like petty cash for Trump.
He donated 1 million bucks for the Vietnam Memorial in NYC.
Trump Charities have donated tens of millions with St. Jude., etc.
It is so lame, but that is all they got left.
Oh, and Ted & Heidi’s tithings are < 1%.
Give us a break.
"Neugebauer, for example, lives in Puerto Rico with his family among a community of mega-wealthy Americans who are taking advantage of the islands generous income tax breaks."Puerto Rico defaulted today.
My impression is that Trump sprinkled around some pretty skimpy donations over the years. I don’t think Trump ever “bankrolled” any politicians. And, AFAIK, he always gave more to Repubs than to Dems.
Trump has legal standing to sue the Clinton Crime Foundation. To sue means discovery.
Since he is an ILLEGAL ALIEN, he’s ineligible to be a US Senator, and ineligible to be in the US.
Exactly! But it is obvious that there will be about 15% who will ALWAYS be Cruzbots and will choose to go through life with blinders. Actually, I think most of them just enjoy the contrarian status!
I told them it would save them over a hundred mil, and they should take it gladly.
But noooooo, they wouldn't listen, wouldn't pay me, and they blew all that money, sure as the sun coming up.
Their loss. Unfortunately, I'm NOT one meeelion dollars richer.......
As an alternative, we could decide that while money is free speech it’s also power, and to limit the amount of power an individual has in an election we need to get rid of PACs and make donations transparent, or even put an upper limit on donations.
Candidates who had to rely on voter donations instead of a few wealthy sponsors hiding behind PACs might legislate differently.
Yes. There is a difference in being the owner and being the owned. Trump has been an owner is his past. Cruz has only been owned.
His faltering campaign has nothing to do with wealthy donors and everything to do with his creepy delivery style.
The man is the most conservative candidate we’ve had in decades. His record is very conservative.
His delivery sucks. He belongs on SCOTUS not in the White House.
That would have been a win/win for the RNC. You would have cleared maybe 600,000, and the RNC scum 99 million.
Government always does the wrong thing : )
That’s why they shouldn’t be president right from the senate floor. Initially, when I still “liked” Cruz, this was my reservation, him and Rubio.
he is in danger of losing his Senate seat in 2018,
********************
Based upon his past history I personally don’t think he’ll run for re-election in 2018.
He moves from job to job every 4 - 5 years in most of his employment. In other words
he doesn’t stay in one position long. Heck he was running for President with only a
couple years in as senator.
I think a lot of people liked Cruz until his head started spinning like the exorcist. He’s not right. I guess the system works after all.
