West Virginia Mayor: The Clintons Are ‘Simply Not Welcome In Our Town’
The Daily Caller ^ | 05/01/2016 | Chuck Ross

Bill Clinton was heckled and booed on Sunday during a campaign event in Logan, West Virginia, where the town’s mayor recently informed Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin that the former first couple are “simply not welcome” because of their “anti-coal messages.”

“I wanted to come here and tell you that I care about what you’re going through. I get it and I think that we can do something about it, that’s the most important thing,” Clinton said at the event, where he was joined by Manchin and Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin, a native of the coal town of about 1,800.

But Clinton’s visit was fraught with tension.

Earlier this week, Logan Mayor Serafino Nolletti sent a letter to a staffer in Manchin’s office saying that he opposed the Clintons visiting the town. The Clinton campaign had asked the Logan fire department for permission to use its facilities to host the former president.

“Bill and Hillary Clinton are simply not welcome in our town,” Nolletti wrote in a letter, according to WOWK.

“Mrs. Clinton’s anti-coal messages are the last thing our suffering town needs at this point,” Nolletti wrote. “The policies that have been championed by people like Mrs. Clinton have all but devastated our fair town, and honestly, enough is enough.”

------------------------------------------

Bill Clinton sought to address those concerns on Sunday, pointing to his wife’s proposals to provide job training and other assistance to displaced coal workers.

But those assurances failed to convince some attendees as a group of attendees began yelling in protest after Clinton pledged to help the depressed region.

What surprises me is her wanting to take the time to visit a town of 1,800 people. Or was she just sending Bill so that he might not be seen by too many people?

I've got no problem with city officials providing a "heads up" to politicians that they're not likely to receive a warm welcome.

I have a big problem with city officials BANNING politicians from speaking to voters in their area, as was recently attempted in California.

I don't think there is any question of that.

Bill was there to wrangle support for the Hildebeast in her upcoming WV primary against Bernie. After that, she won't cross the border into West Virginia.

On a related gossipy note: I've gotten some whispers that polling is running 60% for Trump on the R side of the ledger.

Primary elections are May 10.

I can agree with that. The 1st Amendment needs to be protected even when you may not want to hear what they have to say. The Leftists would rather have President Obama sign an executive order to shut people up that don't agree with them, their transgender and climate control BS stances...

The Clintons are playing fire halls. Nothing wrong with giving a small town attention, but a fire hall?

Oh, how the mighty rapist has fallen...

West Virginia is in mortal peril

The war on coal caused mines to close which caused coal to not be mined which reduced the state coal severance tax which left the governor with out the money to run the state. That resulted in money not coming down to counties and towns which left mayors with no money to run their governments.

Ordinary folk felt the loss and moved. They took their kids. Head count is the basis for State school funding. The school boards were left with schools to run but no money.

West Virginia is in mortal peril

In that case no Democrat should be welcomed...I don’t recall hearing any of them opposing the coal-killers!
