Our city council took it upon themselves to approve an $8 Million Dollar "Loan" to a shadow LLC group building a hotel/conference center in the downtown area of Greeley, but never disclosed the loan to the public till after groundbreaking.
A new citizen group is petitioning to get this on the ballot for voters to approve or disapprove, as should have been done in the first place.
Help them out by freeping the poll on the Tribune phone page, it's about halfway down the page. Thanks.
So this is tax money already collected? How is that a loan? Who benefits from this hotel/convention center? Should we be voting yes? No?, of What hotel?
They pull this crap all the time with sports stadiums and whatnot, the only surprise is that they haven;t done crap like this sooner...

My brother says in KC the media basically do not attend city council meetings anymore, which emboldens the council to do whatever they want.
We have other pressing, unfunded needs like roads, schools, etc...not a privately owned hotel/convention center whose investors are unknown, hiding behind an LLC.
It smacks of crony capitalism.

The more the Federal government subsumes things the less engaged on a local level the citizenry becomes. This is ALL ACCORDING to the planners desires.
If state legislatures picked federal senators, people would care the hell more about who gets sent tot he state houses.
It is the symptom of over 100 years of rot and decay from the progressives.
Here is what is happening all over this country. City Counsel seats are all held by monied interests. They don’t want to spend their money ( except on their puppet) . They want your money to pay for their business, be it contractors, suppliers , real estate developers or what ever. It is corruption beyond your capability to comprehend. They steal “economic development funds” they use “hotel Taxes” they take general revenues to pay off long term debt— all for their gain and benefit at the expense of the innocent property owner suffering with bad sewer pipes— pot holes and bad police protection.
I agree that should have brought it up for a vote. Hopefully though it will bring more needed revenue into the city and hopefully lead to lower taxes for her citizens. But the choice still should have been up to the citizens with them explaining the benefits.
Thus I voted: Yes
Yes: 65.28% - 94 votes
No: 24.31% - 35 votes
What hotel: 10.42% - 15 votes
144 votes cast
I haven’t really looked into this yet. The city has been trying desperately to revitalize the downtown area for years, and it’s just not gonna work. The city is expanding west, and soon Greeley, Loveland, Ft. Collins and Windsor will all be one big cluster. Johnstown, too.
Yeah, it’s all going to merge.
