With the Republican presidential nomination within his grasp, Donald Trump is courting an unlikely group of voters: Bernie Sanders supporters. The GOP front-runner has ratcheted up his rhetoric against presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in recent weeks, calling her a "crooked" politician who is unqualified to be president. But when it comes to her challenger, Bernie Sanders, Trump has taken a notably softer tone, praising the Vermont senator's rhetoric and encouraging him to launch a third-party bid.
"I think Bernie Sanders should run as an independent. I think he'd do great," Trump said at a victory rally in New York City Tuesday night, after sweeping five GOP contests in the Northeast. The next morning, Trump said on MSNBC: "Bernie Sanders has a message that's interesting. I'm going to be taking a lot of the things Bernie said and using them." Trump's advisers say these comments are a preview of more explicit overtures the campaign is ready to make to Sanders' supporters once the populist liberal exits the 2016 rac

I think it would be smart for republicans to go after and try to capture some of the #NeverHillary voters. We can all agree on #NeverHillary. It’s a good common ground place to start!
It’s a brilliant tactical move. He’s giving the Bern supporters a little meat to munch on.
The hardcore Dems will always vote for the Democrat, the hardcore Bernettes will sit home, but there are some who will vote for Trump because he is the only anti establishment candidate left.
Either way, this tactic, will siphon off votes from the Hillary pool. Whether it will be enough to turn blue states purple will remain to be seen.
Divide and conquer, that is the strategy.
Not true in the least, just the opposite in fact. Trump wants to reduce this countries debt load. Which of course would prohibit aggressive spending of any sort. What intervention are you talking about? Militarily? Trump is against that as well.
The problem with "conservatives", is that they know no fineness, just straight on frontal attack. That method rarely wins unless you have overwhelming forces. If we really want the country to become more conservative we must not shoot for the entire enchilada all of the time. Instead we must make a slow but steady move towards that goal. Conservatism wasn't defeated overnight, and it won't be regained overnight either.
Wonder how many of the Bernie supporters are going to get the Woman Card that is being issues by some Hillary supporters?
The best $5,000,000 Trump could spend would be funding Bernie as a 3rd party candidate.
Hell yeah!
And if they stay home in their parents attics and basements that’s fine too:-)
get bent
I would say “positively hate”.
Those Bernie supporters-turned-Trump-voters could be as important to a Trump landslide in November as the Blue-dog Dems were to Reagan.
I don't see why a capitalism hating Bernie supporter would opt for a PURE capitalist wizard Trump.
Well, aren’t you an intellectual giant.
I don’t owe you a damn thing. If you act like a jerk that’s how you’ll get treated.
I agree that it was a master stroke for Trump to try to attract Bernie supporters who have no use for Hillary by wringing out the crazy in Bernie’s message which is most of it and emphasizing the general change message in drawing similarities for the idiots who feel the bern.
Sorry you've got so much sand up your butt.
Now there may be some of us here on Free Republic that finds this unnerving but I view it as a needed strategy.
Why not? It’s not like they’d be voting for a conservative or something.

It was pointed out a few weeks back that much of his policies satisfy their needs and there was already a growing group of Sanders followers that find Trump right down their alley.
