Donald Trump gave an amazing speech about his approach to US foreign policy on Wednesday, at least according to Donald Trump. At an event sponsored by the Center for the National Interest, the Republican presidential frontrunner delivered a 5,000-word speech touching on his criticisms of the Obama administrations approach to national security, the need to whip US allies into shape, and promised that he alone can restore what he described as the lost standing of the US in world affairs.
A Trump foreign policy would eschew nation building but would still somehow promote stability worldwide. It would teach our allies to trust us again, even while making a point of behaving unpredictably. It would teach the US military to fight to win, as opposed to...whatever it is he thinks the military does now.

Of course, it is those same “experts” who created the mess we are in and that Trump promises to clean up.
Remember:
The RMS Titanic and the USS Threasher were built by experts.
The Ark was built by an amateur.
“I’d love to know what the author thinks the military does now.”
What the morons are doing with the military now is sickening, they are making a mockery out of the military — They are promoting and paying for “re-assignment” surgery, re-assignment surgery are you “F’n” kidding me. And promoting transgender, hell Klinger on MASH was transgender and he still used the men’s head....the only thing the leaders over the last seven years have done is intentionally try to break the most exquisite fighting force ever assembled in the history of mankind, and they almost got away with it.
The military has one job, one primary function and that is when diplomats and diplomacy fail you send in the military and we are designed to kill people and blow $hit up...period. You can try and hang a lot frilly happy face stuff on the military, but the bottom line is we succeed when diplomacy fails.
Well the experts have given us the current world
Seems to be that the idea that American interests are a priority in doing business with the world is an excellent idea
Nation building and stability are not partners. The first precludes the second unless a nation does what the USA has eschewed since 1945 i.e. utterly destroy the enemy military and the society before reconstructing it.
don’t be sorry- many pundits are saying the same things today- His speech was contradictory from one sentence to the next- and didn’t make sense in other parts-
There was a fella on hannity last night breaking down all the contradictions and bizarre things trump said, and you should have seen hannity scrambling to defend trump in lgith of those facts- It was kidna comical really- because what could hannity say? There was no escaping the facts the fella brought out-
We live in a competitive, adversarial world.
The Germans like to sell us their cars.
If they can help get a nitwit like Obama elected, it benefits them. Obama will take nitwit actions that will harm America’s car companies. That will help the Germans sell more cars in the US.
“It would teach our allies to trust us again, even while making a point of behaving unpredictably. It would teach the US military to fight to win, as opposed to...whatever it is he thinks the military does now.”
The unpredictability CLEARLY was aimed at enemies. With allies, such as Israel, he spoke of rebuilding trust.
Fighting to win? He was probably thinking of Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, etc. Other than Desert Storm, we do not fight to win. Its obvious.
“Official Washington” is hopelessly corrupt, and scared to death that America is catching on. Its denizens know that they are wildly overpaid compared to the rest of the country, for doing vastly less work. Many of the agencies they work for — particularly departments like the EPA and the DOE — are ridiculously unnecessary. These tax-eaters know the country could get along perfectly well without three-quarters of them.
Trump scares the crap out of the whole socialist criminal enterprise.
Trump laid out a vision for going forward
Reagan gave at least two or three that were better including his Berlin speech.
Trump did just fine
"Fighting to win" also means using "rules of engagement" designed to minimize US casualties, rather than rules which mandate that US troops endure casualties rather than risk any incident involving enemy civilians.
Trump, in repudiating the "politically correct" mindset, offers to free the West in general from a stultifying inability to process what actually works in human affairs for human betterment.
If Obama had delivered it they would be talking about another Nobel prize.
[[It’s that we doubt that what they say is designed to promote the welfare and safety of the common American people, rather than the elites who hire them.]]
hmmm- we’re living in one of he richest nations on earth, have been extremely safe for many many decades now on our own soil— Most people have great jobs, and live with abundance of material goods- running water, indoor plumbing, refrigerators, electricity 24/7 on and on and on it goes- All this despite the world being hostile to us because we have western values- who’s doubting?
Reagan’s speeches were expected...Trump’s was not...
I think that is the difference....
The average citizen is not as compulsion driven as the poseurs who are puzzled and appalled. He is still able to process a realistic argument.
Appalled that we finally have someone that will put America first.
Ivy League educated “EXPERTS” have had the US in almost constant warfare since HW Bush was in office. The US is now 19+ trillion in debt. The State Department (staffed with Ivy League “experts”) under Ivy League educated Hilary Clinton “misplaced” 6 billion dollars of taxpayer money.
Quite frankly, I think that Ivy League “experts” should go suck on a lemon.
“We also tried to make states two party democracies”
Our founders were very opposed to parties. And a two party “system” was nothing they wanted for us.
