GOP establishment begins warming to Trump

In February, Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn bluntly said that a Donald Trump nomination could be an "albatross" to his Republican Party.

Wednesday, with Trump barreling toward the GOP nomination, Cornyn was singing a different tune.

"I think he could change the electoral map in ways we haven't seen before," Cornyn said when asked if he was worried about the Trump impact down-ticket. "This disrupts the usual Republican vs. Democrat, conservative vs. liberal paradigm, and I think we don't know how this will all play out. I think it will be OK."

"You don't need to despair," the Texas Republican added with a laugh.

Cornyn isn't alone. House and Senate Republicans are reluctantly coming to terms with the reality that the real estate mogul -- a man many feared given his unpredictability, questionable policy positions and lack of discipline on the campaign trail -- will likely be their party's standard bearer. Rather than fight it, a number of Republicans say, it may be time to embrace it.

"Many of us who have expressed concerns are reconciling ourselves to the fact that in all likelihood he will be the eventual nominee," said Rep. Mark Sanford of South Carolina, who backs Sen. Ted Cruz for president.

After Trump delivered a foreign policy speech in Washington on Wednesday, some top Republicans were highly laudatory of the billionaire's positions, including Tennessee Sen. Bob Corker, who called the speech "very thoughtful."

Corker, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and a close ally of Senate Majority Mitch McConnell, said with a chuckle that the fact that Trump scares some world leaders could be a good thing for the United States.

"I did say to my staff that is somewhat of a welcome change," Corker said. "There is some good that comes with that."

Apart from coming to the defense of Mitch McConnell when Ted Cruz called him a liar, I haven’t heard Donald Trump say one kind word for Republican leadership. I have heard him say that he can work with Chuck Schumer saying you have to be able to make deals.

They all speak out of both sides of their mouths especially when they have been discovered to act like rinos.

Cornyn is one of the worst and should be primaried.

We just need to remember to pummel those who will try to make America ungovernable in response to the Trump administration.

There’s a reason that when a republican gets elected they’re in office, and when a democrat gets elected they’re in power.

Perhaps it is better for both the nation and The Donald that the RINOs remain a little distant and wary of each other, that way, the expectations do not run too high. Almost all the incumbent Republicans with an active Democrat opposition, and those Republicans running for an open seat, stand a much better than even chance of gaining/retaining office, if they do not run FROM The Donald, but at least display a certain degree of comity and graciousness, and exhibit a modicum of solidarity.

Like it or not, The Donald is fast becoming the face of the Republican Party. Is he brash? Is he loud? Does he offend the sensibilities of the “delicate”? Well, then, maybe we NEED the brash, the loud, and an opportunity to rub the noses of those with “sensibilities” into the mess they have been making of things with their retiring natures and refined correctness.

We have not yet gone a “bridge too far”, but others have for sure.

He's starting to own them and they know it. There's a difference between making deals and rolling over and baring one's belly.....

Warming up to? More like sucking up to. They’re just latching on because they know it’s they’re only hope of survival.

Its a far cry from our current pansy-in-chief, that’s for sure.

Can't seem to get rid of these guys.

But then again, I thought we had a real conservative when we elected Cruz!

THAT ^^.

I almost fell out of my chair, yesterday, listening to Fred GOPee Barnes tripping over his own self with so many compliments for Trump.

It’s a whole new day, for the GOPe.

They’re seeing the writing on the Trump Wall.

In my opinion the cabel is weak and inefficient because they have no real leader. Trump will remedy that. He has a way of convincing others to do their jobs. He is a born leader
