Republican U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey says he cast his presidential vote for Ted Cruz, describing the Texas senator as having a deep understanding of the issues and "concrete" ideas on the economy and national security.
"He's a solid conservative," Toomey said this morning outside his polling place in Zionsville. "We don't agree on everything, but having served with him in the Senate, I know Ted pretty well and I think he's got a real, real viable shot of beating Hillary Clinton in the fall."
While Donald Trump leads among Republicans in public polls of state voters, Toomey noted that the nomination process "doesn't end in Pennsylvania."
Toomey had endorsed Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, who ended his presidential bid in March.
The Lehigh Valley legislator said he "got out of the endorsement business" after that, noting that his own re-election race will be his main focus.
As for his own electoral odds, Toomey - who will be watching returns come in at an event in Pittsburgh - was focused on today's balloting.
"I think my chances of winning today are pretty good," Toomey quipped, referring to his unchallenged status on the primary ballot.
Four Democrats are vying for a shot at unseating Toomey: retired admiral Joe Sestak, former environmental adviser Katie McGinty, Braddock Mayor John Fetterman, and western Pennsylvania small businessman Joe Vodvarka.
Toomey described Sestak and McGinty, the front-runners in that contest, as "very liberal candidates, way outside the mainstream of Pennsylania voters," adding that he feels confident about his shot at gaining a second term.
"I think Ive been able to be very productive in the Senate reaching across the aisle and getting things done for Pennsylvania," Toomey said. "I think my focus on economic growth and security are exactly what voters tell me is important to them."

All that forehead and no brains to show for it.
What a waste.
:)
It is amazing how Cruz has gone from anti-establishment to being seen as THE ESTABLISHMENT GOP! Cruz, to me is the anti=establishment GOP person in the race, not Trumpeter.
“This is funny. Toomey is running uncontested and may find himself with fewer votes than any other people running on the Republican Ticket. He is siding now with gun grabbers in PA. The NRA is at every precinct today to point that out.
He’s just another Uniparty candidate that ran as a conservative and became a liberal. I left the Senate selection blank today. “
98% of them are for sale, and it doesn’t take long for most to sell out.
The PA voters need to ZOT Toomey!
He endorsed Rubio.
Toomey is Swahili for RINO.
yes, that’s in the article.
I know, but it is relevant because Toomey did not back Cruz initially. He just decided to vote for a member of the club rather than for Trump. Cruz is still a sitting senator and an insider.
Pennsylvania’s “Jeff Flake”.
I can understand why you would see him that way. He opposed much of what happens in the Senate.
I am just adding in his familial Goldman Sachs connection, his Bush money connections, etc.
It appears to me that he wants to be president and is running as an outsider.
But like I said, I know many people who share your view.
Republican U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey says he cast his presidential vote for Ted Cruz
***********
So this block of granite originally supported Jeb!, then Marco and now votes for Cruz while Trump is winning PA with 65%.
Toomey is the working definition of a loser.
False premise. Cruz is mathematically eliminated from the race. If he gets the nomination, it will be through trickery from the GOPe.
Also, I won't need to stay home or sulk. Hillary or Obama's leftists judges will destroy Cruz over his eligibility.
No one is mathematically eliminated until someone gets 1237. 1236? Not enough. 1238? More than enough. If Trump wins I’ll vote for him (hell, I held my nose and voted for McCain and Rommney - what’s another vote for a moderate?). Can you say the same about Cruz? That’s my question to you and the rest of Trump Republic tonight.
I will not vote for Cruz for these specific reasons:
(1) He stood with BLM and other Soros-funded activists back on Fri 03/11 in Chicago where they forced Trump to cancel his rally
(2) He is not eligible for POTUS and will get summarily destroyed by both the Obama and Clinton machines
(3) He is a con-artist, a fake Christian, and a cheater
way to go get voters there. Vote for the guy who has failed miserably
No, because Cruz has shown he is not worthy. Ted Cruz could only win the nomination in the context of a yuge theft, taking advantage of the "NeverTrump" movement intended solely to blunt Donald Trump's delegate accumulation.
Apparently, Ted Cruz plans on limping into the GOP convention with, at best, about 700 delegates or so.
And then what's he going to do somehow, magically? He's going to seize the nomination from Donald Trump, displacing the party's clear frontrunner.
Then what? This is the most ridiculous part: after swiping the nomination, he will:
It's time for the GOPe and Ted Cruz to face objective reality.
So the situations between Trump and Cruz regarding support are no longer reciprocal, nor have they been for a long while.
Ted Cruz is the one who is willing to sacrifice his party, or even the country, on the altar of his own personal ambition.
Ted Cruz's egotism and narcissism make Donald Trump's pale in comparison.
This collusion with John Kasich just totally discredits what's left of Ted Cruz's campaign.
You know someone's campaign is imploding when they start suggesting for people to vote for a candidate other than themselves in a given state.
Ted Cruz has become a caricature of a politician who refuses to concede even after he's been totally crushed.
There will be no contested convention, and even if there is, Ted Cruz will not emerge from it with the nomination.
The time for such silliness is past.
Nobody should want the GOPe to be involved in selecting the nominee.
Vote Trump
Impressive.
Did you come up wit that on your own - or did the guys in Algebra class help you with that?
No, Trigonometry.
Now get back to your remedial 2 +2’s.
