Allies of Sen. Ted Cruz are now targeting conservative legend Phyllis Schlafly, a leading grassroots anti-establishment voice for half a century, because Schlafly endorsed billionaire businessman Donald Trump for president in the 2016 GOP primary.

Several Cruz supporters inside Eagle Forum are unhappy with Phyllis Schlafly’s Trump endorsement, and have been working behind the scenes against her for months. They have leaked emails, engaged in personal attacks, and even advanced an argument questioning whether the 91-year-old Schlafly is still competent enough to run the organization. Now, several board members of one wing of the tripartite Eagle Forum organization have for the first time in more than four decades of existence called together a special board meeting at which they purported to have voted to remove Schlafly’s handpicked successor as president of the organization and claim to have seized control of the organization and its bank accounts from the longtime activist.

This is most disheartening. I voted to send Cruz to the Senate. But for his operatives to go after Phyliss Shlafly (apparently with the approval and assistance of her daughter) simply because she endorsed the candidate of her choice is shameful, and if true Cruz is not the man I hoped and prayed he was. I liked Cruz because he fought for issues I cared about, so I'd give him a shot. And I liked Trump because in spite of his non conservative past, if he's willing to take the fight to Clinton and vanquish her I'd give him a shot. But the two best chances we stand are now busily, gleefully engaged in attempting to destroy each other in a monumental passing match when they both should unite for the good of the nation. Once again we will do the left's work for them and destroy ourselves. I freely admit to being out of my depth on the machinations of political chicanery. So what say you, Dearest Freepers?

As the head of the organization, she had a right to do it on it’s behalf.

I met her many years ago, and she has one truly impressive presence. So gracious and very dignified...but you could see the humor in the twinkle in her eye. She’s a very great lady.

I agree I should have said it in my original statement. By committing this grave transgression, Cruz has lost my respect, and my vote. I will no doubt be damned by some. But if it be in good faith, believing all that we act for the good of our nation, being damned is a small price indeed. Did not our Forefathers and their countless descendants pay with their very lives for the freedom to argue in this forum and others?
