In the wake of the New York primary, there is a sense that some of the GOP elites are making their peace with the Trumpocalypse. To be sure, some of the partys leaders are resisting Trumps faux charm offensive, but there is also a palpable mood of defeatism among the Invertebrate.
Yet in hallway chatter here, there was a growing sense of resignation about Trump as the nominee
That mood is likely to spread after this weeks expected primary wins for Trump in the northeast. Some party leaders arent waiting. Reince Priebus is calling on anti-Trump activists to unite behind him if he is the nominee. Even Marco Rubio , who surely understands the reality of Trumpism as well as anyone in national politics, now suggests he would back him in a general election.
All of this comes amid growing evidence of Trumps unelectability. Polls shows suggest he trails Hillary Clinton by double digits and analyses of the electoral college put the chances of a Clinton blowout somewhere between likely and O my God.
As Tim Carney notes : Trump would be the least-respected, least-liked major party nominee since polling began. As a result, anti-Trump groups rejected the call for rallying around a Trumpist GOP...

Were talking communitit’s here. If they come out it will be to vote against the evil republican.
I suspect that there is some aspect of these polls that we aren’t being told. They are reporting their conclusions, not their questions.
I’ve been polled on my landline phone a number of times. The polls are a lengthy series of questions which can be used as filters- do you always vote, when was the last time that you voted, are you a Democrat, Republican or independent, do you always support your party’s choice, do you consider yourself a conservative or liberal, how conservative do you consider yourself, then a long series of policy questions. We don’t know how the pollsters are filtering their respondents.
Yes, we have already discussed this. Wisconsin Republicans - especially those surrounding Milwaukee - are far more conservative and intellectually involved in politics and elections than ANYWHERE else in the country.
There is zero truth to your assertion (no data, no facts) that Democrat crossover gave Cruz a 14 point victory in Wisconsin. If anything, the data suggests that Democrat crossover gave Trump the slim pluralities he won in two congressional districts to salvage 6 delegates in the least educated, lowest-income and most moderate GOP areas of Wisconsin.
Instead, knowing he cannot win that way, he is trying to circumvent the spirit of the primaries and win on the 2nd round of the convention.
He won't win the General election with that tactic.
That’s an interesting observation. A friend of mine likes to say that Trump is playing three dimensional chess in this campaign. The choice of venues isn’t left to chance, we can be sure of that.
Like I said; an unfortunate situation.
SB, you and I have been around here the same amount of time.
I know you love America, as do I.
I respect your opinion, even if I don’t agree with it.
There are still more twists and turns to come in this, the most amazing primary season in our lifetimes.
I have very mixed feelings about the new Cruz-Kasich tactic. On the one hand Trump is winning the race fair and square, unite the party and go on to win against Hillary.
On the other hand....Trump can’t help himself by attacking Cruz...his wife...etc. Good grief...act presidential for goodness sake. This is the part of Trump that I absolutely cannot stand. The spoiled child part of his character. This is the part that makes one pause about fully supporting him.
Aside from the fact that those counties surrounding Milwaukee voted for the social squish in 2012 [Romney over Santorum] and 2008 [McCain over Huckabee].
So, you're full of it, #NeverTrumper.
I smell ozone.
Trump never attacked Cruz’s wife, but his wife was attacked by a Cruz Pac, which Cruz never denounced.
Almost as good as Football. BTW:

Well, other than the actual vote totals in the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Wisconsin open primaries.
They JUST can't help themselves. :)
Only for those who want Hillary elected
I’d say the twitter picture was an attack....
I know you love America, as do I.
I respect your opinion, even if I dont agree with it.
Thank you for the only even-handed Trumper post on this thread. I appreciate the gesture. SSB
I kinda don’t think those were venues (for GWB) that could hold 10,000 to 20,000 like Trump gets and with thousands more hanging around in hopes of getting in...
Well, your first four words were correct...after that, not so much.
You don't actually know (as is typical with most FR comments lately), but felt a strong need to offer a challenge to the comment.
FYI - the GWB event in 2004 was held at the Wisconsin State Fairgrounds where 10,000 or more waited for hours in a line that extended for more than a mile (remember this was the first election post 9-11, so large-scale event security was in its infancy).
Actually, he can ask that, but the answer is quite obvious, and has been answered so many times, as to cause the question to become something of a stupid question meme. Quick answer, huge difference between winning among Republicans, who comprise 1/3 of the electorate, and winning the general election.
