In the wake of the New York primary, there is a sense that some of the GOP elites are making their peace with the Trumpocalypse. To be sure, some of the partys leaders are resisting Trumps faux charm offensive, but there is also a palpable mood of defeatism among the Invertebrate.
Yet in hallway chatter here, there was a growing sense of resignation about Trump as the nominee
That mood is likely to spread after this weeks expected primary wins for Trump in the northeast. Some party leaders arent waiting. Reince Priebus is calling on anti-Trump activists to unite behind him if he is the nominee. Even Marco Rubio , who surely understands the reality of Trumpism as well as anyone in national politics, now suggests he would back him in a general election.
All of this comes amid growing evidence of Trumps unelectability. Polls shows suggest he trails Hillary Clinton by double digits and analyses of the electoral college put the chances of a Clinton blowout somewhere between likely and O my God.
As Tim Carney notes : Trump would be the least-respected, least-liked major party nominee since polling began. As a result, anti-Trump groups rejected the call for rallying around a Trumpist GOP...

I don't disagree with that comment. For the conservative intellectuals who support Cruz and even those who merely oppose Trump, we want that word and that ideology to continue to have meaning, relevance and importance to us!
You say you will take a chance on maintaining conservatism with Trump. I think you would have better odds winning Powerball.
I don't like Trump. I don't believe Trump. I do not want to vote for him in November. If he wins the GOP nomination, Trump will most certainly move back to his center-left moorings and I will dislike him (and yes, all of the FR Trumpers who have enabled him) even more.
the cucks the cucks the cucks are sittin ducks
It’s an unfortunate situation.
They do this all the time in the House of Reps. When the conservative side starts to press them, they turn to the rats for support.
You’ve got to scratch your head on that one for sure, Pelham. Why do people flock to see Trump, but his unfavorable ratings are huge? Somewhere in the measuring of ‘favorability’ there is a huge error.
“Do you want more illegal immigrants in the country?” No
“Who do you think will stop illegal immigration?” Trump
“Do you like Trump?” No.
“Who will you vote for?” Trump.
(”What don’t you like about Trump? His hair...other than that I love his policies.)
At this point, #NeverTrump really is a mixture of #AlwaysDelusional and #MaybeHillary types.
And I couldn't get into a GWB rally in 2004 because that crowd was too big. So what? It happens often. Campaign managers intentionally book venues that are too small for the anticipated crowd.
Did you fall down and dent your brain pan? I am not a Cruz supporter. He’s not “my” candidate.
the national Cruz campaign is over. I wouldn’t deny anyone the right to carry on in the 8 states. Delegates are being elected.
But in CT, a vote for Cruz is a vote for Kasich. Cruz will finish below the threshold.
We’ve been over this again and again. The anti-cruzball vote is yuger and the anti-kasick vote is yuger still.
#nevertrump? Really?
” Again, I firmly believe:
‘So, should anti-Trump forces sit down, shut up, and vote Trump? Only if they want to contribute to the continued dilution of conservatism into a meaningless word that can act as a mask for leftist policy.’”
JR answered your question two days ago; whether you take him seriously is up to you I suppose:
“NeverTrump is a losing proposition and will lead to a loss of liberty and loss of country.
This is totally unacceptable.
After the corrupt establishment losing twice in a row to Marxist Obama, I’m damned tired of the corrupt establishment and damned tired of losing.
If you are a NeverTrump type person, you are working against our purposes on FR, so please opus out now and log off and let us carry on with our mission in peace.
Continue insulting us with 24/7 anti-Trump diatribes and insults, your opus will be assumed.
We will unite behind our nominee and we will win this coming election (with or without you) and we will get a handle on this divided forum very soon.
Hope you understand my position.”

Yea, right up to election night in 1980 they were saying similar things about Ronald Reagan.
I believe the polling today for Trump vs. Hillary is at least as flawed...if not more so...than it was back then.
As we discussed earlier, the Democrats in the Milwaukee area counties gave Trump a black eye in Wisconsin, to keep the crLuzer in the race.
If the crLuzer was an actual threat, and Trump has REALLY always been what this quote says: "All of this comes amid growing evidence of Trumps unelectability. Polls shows suggest he trails Hillary Clinton by double digits and analyses of the electoral college put the chances of a Clinton blowout somewhere between likely and O my God., then the Wisconsin Democrats would have dropped Cruz like a bad habit to get to Trump in the general.
But that didn't happen, did it? LOL! :)
Trump books airplane hangers. This event was at the airport in Hagerstown, MD
Sideshow Bob is begging to be zotted as are all the dead-enders pushing for a contested convention and a Hillary win.
If you haven’t seen Jim’s latest editorial, you should seek it out.
NeverTrumpers have been riding the lightning.
I’ll support Cruz, if he is the nominee. What I am saying is Florida does not have the same conservative base that other southern states have. Those “squishy conservatives, independents and crossovers in Florida will not, in large part, vote Cruz. I’m just stating reality.
Have you noticed Trump seems to be making a driving-distance ring around Cleveland to get people pumped to come on down.
Folks can stop reading this once they get to this part, “All of this comes amid growing evidence of Trumps unelectability. Polls shows suggest he trails Hillary Clinton by double digits and analyses of the electoral college put the chances of a Clinton blowout somewhere between likely and O my God.”
Ummm, no. Please put down the LSD, take a deep breath. What polls would that be? Clinton’s inside polls? The tooth fairy?
