Yes, and and a list of other things, including avoiding too much UV exposure (and using sunblock), and staying at a reasonable weight. It also helps a lot to have good genes.
Well at least people are no longer “dying in the streets without 0bamacare” ....(said by some bobble head dimwit touting 0bamacare)
re: I have always been healthier getting my care with the VA. Regular visits have that effect.
1) People who have regular visits to a synogogue, church or temple have better health than those who don’t, and probably those who have faith in God have better health than those who have faith in the VA.
2) Numerous scientific studies have been done of lab animals and of humans. Some of the subjects are allowed to choose what food to eat, what toy to play with. Other subjects the scientist chooses the best food and exercise for the subject. The subject has no choice and can only do what the scientist chooses for him.
Consistently the subjects who have the freedom to choose their food and toys live longer, have less heart disease, less cancer, etc.
Coming from someone who works in the ER, I say not really. If anything, it’s making people more apt to be sloppy with themselves on the absurd notion that they can do so and just come running into the ER when they don’t feel right.
I admit I’m not a doctor and that there’s more to some problems than what’s on the surface, but from what I’m also hearing from the nurses and doctors I work with, a lot of people would do better just taking care of themselves and going to their PCP or a walk-in clinic. By coming to the ER when they just have a cold or a bellyache, they tie up resources and end up with a big bill because we have to run a bunch of tests to prove they don’t have something serious.
