Gov. Terry McAuliffe this morning will sign an order that effectively restores the civil rights, including the right to vote, of more than 200,000 felons in Virginia.
The unprecedented move, expected to be announced at an 11 a.m. news conference on Capitol Square, marks a dramatic expansion of policy in restoring the right to vote, to sit on a jury, to serve in elected office or become a notary.
Today's order applies to nonviolent and violent felons - a significant departure from a policy embraced in recent years by Democrat and Republican governors to remove the societal obstacles felons face upon completing their sentences.
"Under the Constitution of Virginia, the governor has the authority to 'remove political disabilities consequent upon conviction' for felonies," according to a confidential draft of research for the order obtained by the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
"Using this authority, the governor has issued an order restoring civil rights to a large number of Virginians currently disenfranchised for a felony conviction."
The order, effective today, applies to "any felon who has completed any term of incarceration and completed any period of supervised release, probation or parole, for any and all felony convictions."

If they get voting rights, they should get their gun rights too!

McAuliffe is a Clinton lap dog and political hack.....Virginia has become politically corrupted bedroom community of D.C.

This website has a chart that shows voting rights of felons by state.
In Maine and Vermont you can vote absentee from prison.

VOTE BUYING!
All the more reason for the need of a federal elections amendment that:
1) allows ONLY US citizens to vote in federal elections
2) prohibits any person convicted of any offense punishable by 10 or more years in prison from voting
3) Requires the States to maintain separate state and federal voting rolls if the state’s laws for voting are different than the federal laws
4) Requires US citizens to register to vote only in their state of residence
5) Requires proof of residence and citizenship at the time of registration to vote and actual voting
6) Requires the states to purge the federal voting roll March 1st of every year following a Presidential election
7) Prohibits any means of automatic voter registration.
Wonder what Trump will say about this development in VA?
This is nothing. Wait until teamobama release all BLM felons right before the election.

Does it include the right to own a gun?
These people WON’T vote, they have absolutely NO desire to vote or become a part of regular society!!!
I think anyone who is currently staying out of trouble, paying taxes and now contributing to society they should have the right to vote.
I agree with you that, having paid one’s debt to society, rights must be restored.
As to your second paragraph, violent people are going to be let back into society whether their rights are restored or not. Repeat offenders already get enhanced sentences, so I don’t understand your point.
Probably used the pardon power. Perfectly legal, but it is really going to tick off the General Assembly even more.
The Marxist left has gone completely bat guano crazy.
Prolly true of most
Like kids about voting
That makes two of us
VA has been going blue for some time now. VA will go for Hillary in 2016 regardless.
