Hands Off the Ladies’ Rooms
National Review ^ | April 22, 2016 | Mona Charen

If it concerns sex in any way, you can be sure that our culture will fixate on it and manage to defy common sense with hyperventilating indignation. Same-sex marriage roiled the waters for decades, but now that the Supreme Court has big-footed that question, culture warriors are prowling for new realms of transgression to embrace. So, coming to a bathroom near you — transgenderism.

I’m just back from a weekend at Harvard University where unisex bathrooms are the norm. On behalf of womankind, I say: To the Bathroom Barricades!

Bathroom injustice has been a feature of the world for a very long time. Ask any woman. Most buildings feature equal-size bathrooms for the two sexes — an automatic disadvantage for women who cannot use urinals (at least as of this writing). At every concert, stadium, lecture hall, or large meeting room, the line for the ladies’ room will usually curl out the door and around corners while the men breeze through their facility with assembly-line efficiency. The only building in Washington, D.C. I know of where this is not the case is Constitution Hall, built by and for the Daughters of the American Revolution. Constitution Hall has twice the number of women’s bathrooms as men’s. Revolutionary indeed.

Some opponents of permitting “transgender” individuals to use the bathroom of their subjective feelings rather than their biology point to the risk of sexual assault. That seems a negligible risk. Hard to imagine rapists donning skirts the better to grab women in a ladies’ room surrounded by female witnesses. But the trans-bathroom movement offends in other ways.

Gender-neutral bathrooms are nothing new. We use them on airplanes and trains all the time. At the risk of offending some men, there are two things that should be said about this.

Do you honestly think the only danger is a women’s restroom is men? Or in a men’s restroom, women?

Do you honestly think that adding another danger - enforced by law - is an appropriate act?

Do you honestly think I want my 10 year old granddaughter to use a public restroom while I stand outside and a guy with a wig and wearing a dress can walk right by me and walk in behind her?

“Cruz is for putting police outside bathrooms to examine people’s sex organs before they can pee”

Why can’t Trump supporters simply stick to the message of how Trump is the best candidate?

Instead you ALWAYS have to resort to nasty, filthy slanders and lies.

Special class protections for homosexuals and transgenders are NOT conservative values.

If it were the 1950’s, campaigning on protecting religious liberty from the homosexual fascists agenda would be a silly proposition. EVERYONE knew that these were perversions and mental diseases. It was just common sense.

Today, you can lose your job, be fined for hundreds of thousands of dollars, and even go to jail for DISAGREEING with the homo-fascists.

Trump picked the wrong side on this. A true conservative would call him out on it and demand that he correct it. If you are going to pretend this is a non-issue, you are NOT a conservative. Period.

Maybe you are a fiscally-conservative liberal or libertarian, but not a conservative.

I don’t know if that goes on in Ladies rooms, but if not, a lot of female liberals are going to be grossed out.

Yeah, if this law goes through, it would be worth it to go out on Craigslist and hire a bunch of homeless male winos (also known as "bums") to hang around public women's rooms and make sure the stalls are always occupied.

Also, to make sure that there are lots of tipsy males standing around by the mirrors, to engage the gals with friendly chatter about, for example, their appearance. You know, just acting like guys.

Dear Duchess,

I said nothing about women being accosted. That is not my narrative at all..

I have raised a house full of daughters and as you should know, Duchess, women like their privacy, and I want them to have it. It may not be a big issue in restrooms with stalls, but nevertheless, it could be by the mere presence of a male, especially with a sensitive female - young or old.

But in a woman’s locker room where the ladies are in all stages of undress, it will always be a major issue. My wife, an octogenarian like me, works out at the Y all the time, is one who is very private and sensitive. The Charlotte ordinance included transgender males in locker rooms.

I don’t believe a transgender should have the right to stomp upon women’s right to privacy.

I remembered something else the ladies can look forward to:

They think they have a problem with their husbands not putting down the seat. Wait til they see a seat that was never put up and men used as target practice. Or the way some guys NEVER flush public toilets.

Yessirree, the unintended consequences of non-discimination for the 3 in 100,000 population are absolutely going to be worth it to our liberal friends.

But I guess it actually doesn’t matter to some of them. I read recently that to cope with homeless folks using the sidewalks for urinals and toilets, San Francisco is solving the problem by putting in some open air toilets, partially screened by some bushes.

Safety and dignity can both be accommodated in civilization. We are losing both because The Sheeple do nothing about everything. The way to let evil triumph is for good people to do nothing. That, sadly, sums up the willingness of this Nation's citizens to keep their own country.

Pack heat, young lady.

Sounds like men are making decisions as to who has access to women’s restrooms.

Is the "solution" or "compromise" to this issue ultimately going to be UNISEX Bathrooms? (Ugh) I've read about them in a few places. I cannot imagine a woman or man wishing to use a unisex bathroom. I'm a man and I don't want to do my business around a woman, and I know for damn sure a lady doesn't want to be in their with me doing her make up or anything else. That's just gross. I'd feel bad for HER. To be around a bunch of ape-like men with hairy backs, farting and dropping their loads...well you get the idea. My prediction is that women, and men, will be HOLDING IT as long as they can until they can get home.

I gotta think that many or most of the women who think they are ok with men using the ladies room haven't been married or shared a bathroom with men before. Maybe that's just me.

“Cruz is for putting police outside of bathrooms to examine peoples sex organs...”

A falsehood.

Falsehoods weaken the discussion.

Cruz is a Falsehood. He took what was said added to it and made a deceptive talking point. So Mocking him is allowed for this Unchristian conduct.

Mockery added to falsehood also weakens the discussion.

Besides, why should I come here for that? I could get it at Daily Kos.

If you looked at what was actually said not what Cruz created in his lawyer lies for effect you would not be on my case but on Cruz’s for lying.
