Donald Trump said Thursday he would change the Republican Party platform's position on abortion to include exceptions for rape, incest and the life of the mother.
Trump made the remarks during a town hall on the "Today" show on NBC on Thursday morning when host Savannah Guthrie asked him about abortion exceptions.
"The Republican platform every four years has a provision that states that the right of the unborn child should not be infringed," Guthrie said. "And it makes no exceptions for rape, for incest, for the life of the mother. Would you want to change the Republican platform to include the (abortion) exceptions that you have?"
"Yes, I would. Yes, I would. Absolutely," Trump said. "For the three exceptions, I would."
Currently, the Republican platform abortion policy reads: "We assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed."

Keep digging pushing Don you are about to eliminate yourself...
Fixed it so the imagery is more accurate.
You sound like you have been out in the sun too long, like 20 years too long. Get a grip.
I thought education was a local issue.
Of course the Presidency should be someone of high character, having honesty and integrity.
Having disagreements on how to handle social issues doesn't make someone immoral
The issue regarding the President and the military isn't moral influence is it a change in policy, which the Congress has oversight over.
Yet, there appears to be very little outrage over putting women in combat and the femininzation of the military by the GOP Congress
Amen!
So, it is not an issue for the President.
One can be for abortion and be against the government funding it since the government has no business doing so.
Here is a list Jim Robinson posted on Trumps position. Jim Robinson say’s he’s a conservative. Here is his list. Feel free to address each and every point and tell me what’s not conservative about it.
This is not a liberal:
Build the wall.
Enforce the law.
Deport them all.
End sanctuary cities.
End anchor babies.
Slap a moratorium on muslim immigration.
Cut the taxes.
Cut the spending.
Cut the regulations.
Cut the government.
Cut the debt.
Cut the EPA.
Repeal ObamaCare.
Get the feds out and allow health insurance to be sold over state lines.
Send education back to states.
Get a handle on trade.
Make trade deals in our own best interests.
Bring back capital.
Bring back manufacturing.
Bring back jobs.
Strengthen the economy.
Defend the second amendment.
Defend religious freedom.
Appoint constitutional conservative judges.
Rebuild our military.
Bomb the shit out of ISIS (and take their oil).
End political correctness.
Take the GOP head-on.
Take the media head-on.
Take the liberals head-on.
And win, baby, win.
All of the above on a shoestring budget compared to most of the 16 competitors hes defeated (after they spent 100s of millions of donor bucks).
No PACs.
No big donors.
No party support.
Whats democrat about any of the above?
Whats not conservative?
Whats not to like?
And Ill add a few more:
Redo the horrid Iran deal.
Take a serious look at NATO.
Require our allies to pay more for their defense.
Rebuild the Reagan Coalition and attract blue collar workers by making America first again on manufacturing, trade, secure borders, economy and jobs, jobs, jobs!
Trump is the best conservative that can win the Presidential election.
Vote Trump.
And unless the SC is going to overturn abortion, it remains legal in all 50 States!
Want to try again?
Remember it's not the fall DIRECTLY that kills you (it's the stop at the end); but that doesn't mean you should jump into the Grand Canyon.
Since Obama doesn't DIRECTLY do anything about abortion we should just let him pack the court.
The next president through his judicial appointments may have more sway over abortion than any president since the Roe V. Wade Ruling. There's already one spot open and a few old folks on the court.
He came out against punishment for the mother because of the emotional issues she is going through.
In other words, she isn't responsible for her actions.
What Cruz said there was a bunch of meaningless rhetoric.
What can save the nation is a spiritual revival, which has nothing to do with the Presidency.
Hezekiah comes to mind among others. This nation was founded on the heels of a revival and a vast majority of the founders were strong Christians who took their faith seriously. So seriously they almost could not write about politics without their mentioning God. Their faith shaped their world view.
We had a conservative as a SC judge and it wasn't overturned then
So, as President, he could do nothing about abortion since it is legal.
The US is not a theocracy.
When did he become a conservative?
I have confidence in none.
Islam has to be destroyed end of story and trump is the strongest against Islam, if cruz was stronger then trump against islam i would support him
Ok, so you think Trump will lose.
So, as President, he could do nothing about abortion since it is legal.
Replace enough judges and you can make some changes. That's the only way it will ever be illegal, so you can punish all those women you want to.
Apparently you missed Trump's flip-flop on that one. Figured you want to know so you can update your arguments. http://www.lifenews.com/2016/04/04/donald-trump-i-clarified-on-punishing-women-for-abortions-since-people-didnt-understand-it/
He is historically pro choice. Always has been.
Did donald become a conservative before he became a candidate for president or after?
The truth at last!
Not really. Weve been saying that all along and you guys keep hearing something else because your platform is based on the idea that Ted Cruz is the only consistent conservative with constitutional values and the whole world looks like a nail when your only tool is a hammer.
No reform is possible and no return to constitutional values will happen until we can end illegal invasions and create an economy that puts people to work in jobs that make going to work worth it.
You misunderstand my point. I wasn't even referring to the Constitution.
"Nationalist populism" essentially means that G-d doesn't actually exist . . . each people, each culture, creates its own "gxds" in its own image. It is a call for the rejection of all universal moral norms in favor of the primitive tribal blood code. And while this doesn't apply to you, it does apply to some, believe it or not. They call themselves "civilizationists" or "palaeocons," but to them the Biblical G-d is an idea the white man came up with. Which makes them atheists whose values and goals are every bid as groundless as the values and goals of left wing atheists.
I'm sure that sounds nutty to you, but I've been around and I know what I'm talking about. These people are "intellectuals" with the same nutty ideas that all "intellectuals" have. They have highfalutin' racialist magazines and publications. And they have the unmitigated gall to dismiss the One True G-d as a cultural trinket and think themselves the Ultimate Conservatives!
I want to make it very clear that I don't in the least think that Trump is a Nazi or a racialist at all (he's much more likely to be a liberal, which he's always been). But his campaign appeals to such people, people who think it's more conservative to abort and sterilize non-whites than to fight for universal G-dly morality. The "Mexicans are worse than homosexuals" posts here expose this.
The intellectuals who run this movement really are raving anti-Semites for one very good reason: the Jewish People is the objectively Chosen People of the One True G-d. So long as their existence as a distinct nation is maintained the human race will be stuck together under the One G-d (however much they don't like it). They literally blame the fact that humanity is a single unit on the existence of Jews. And they're right to do so, because that's the way G-d set it up.
I want to make one thing crystal clear: I'm in this thing for one reason and one reason only, and that is G-d. G-d pre-existed "western civilization" and He will continue to exist after it is dust. The very idea that there are some people who think that anything whatsoever, from "social justice" to "western civilization" is worth fighting for in an utterly meaningless word is abhorrent to me.
Maybe if all these chrstians actually worshiped the One True G-d instead of (so often) creating a racial/ethnic totem in their own image we wouldn't be in this mess!
