Trump: I would change GOP platform on abortion
CNN ^ | 04/21/16 | David Wright

Posted on 04/21/2016 10:32:44 AM PDT by writer33

Donald Trump said Thursday he would change the Republican Party platform's position on abortion to include exceptions for rape, incest and the life of the mother.

Trump made the remarks during a town hall on the "Today" show on NBC on Thursday morning when host Savannah Guthrie asked him about abortion exceptions.

"The Republican platform every four years has a provision that states that the right of the unborn child should not be infringed," Guthrie said. "And it makes no exceptions for rape, for incest, for the life of the mother. Would you want to change the Republican platform to include the (abortion) exceptions that you have?"

"Yes, I would. Yes, I would. Absolutely," Trump said. "For the three exceptions, I would."

Currently, the Republican platform abortion policy reads: "We assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed."

Yes, because it is legal.

To reverse that we have to make it illegal but the pro-life movement generally wants it illegal but with no punishment for the mother!

I don’t really care what a President Cruz would do about trannies in a bathroom. I DO care that any conservative president have a clue about right and wrong.

Maybe reality is one of your strong suits.
The President doesn't have any say over what is taught in the schools.

And what has the conservative GOP Congress done about what Obama has done to the military regarding women in combat and other idiotic ideas?

Where is the bill by Cruz to stop it?

George Bush had nothing to do with no child left behind??? He's the one that let Ted Kennedy help write the thing then helped ramrod it through. Just like Obama has been ramming Common Core down our throats.

Congress isn't the commander in chief, the president is. Why put congress in a position to have to fight Trump on issues like this?

Lets cut to the chase, in other words, you expect the President to be a preacher against abortion?

I think the President has to use his bully pulpit to rally the People around issues he can change.

The churches are where the preaching against abortion is done.

Well he doesn’t help the cause by conceding the entire thing from the get-go.

Congress can’t do anything about abortion, it is the SC that is going to have to reverse it’s decisions.

I should add the only other route is a constitutional amendment to the Constitution saying that life begins in the womb.

It is not a matter of conceding is it a matter of recognizing what a President can do and can’t.

No one thinks he’s a rock-ribbed Conservative. We think that he is a strong nationalist in a time when Transnational Progressives run both parties and control most corporations and banks.

The truth at last!

You are careless and thoughtless. Thousands and thousands of abortions have been prevented because of required ultrasounds prior to abortions that are required by law. This due to laws passed in recent years. A difference is being made door jamb by door jamb.

So, how does that change what a President can do about it?

Don’t worry friends.

I have been continually re-assured by my so many Trump Friends here at FR that Trump is in fact a conservative.

The fact that now people are slamming the door in Cruz’s face and Trump now discovers that pedophiles should be able to use the women’s bathrooms in North Carolina and unborn babies need less protection not more, is not a reason to panic.

Trump is a true conservative. he does not shift his opinions simply to take advantage of the moment.

So for example, if the nomination process for Republicans was closes and he thought he could get more votes and power by moving his convictions to the Left, he would not do that.

Pay no heed to the Gross shifts in position that come less than 48 hours after he “mathematically eliminates” Cruz.

/S!

Here are the words describing the convictions of this Free Republic board:

“As a conservative site, Free Republic is pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-Constitution, pro-Bill of Rights, pro-gun, pro-limited government, pro-private property rights, pro-limited taxes, pro-capitalism, pro-national defense, pro-freedom, and-pro America. We oppose all forms of liberalism, socialism, fascism, pacifism, totalitarianism, anarchism, government enforced atheism, abortionism, feminism, homosexuals. . .”

I am still not seeing it folks.

For gracious’s sake, it’s not a new thing for presidents to take a stand on this issue! Since when do we concede these things only once the left has won some battles? Every time the left gets its wish on a social issue, some supposed “conservatives” agree with the left that the “issue is settled”! Well, the left thought it was worthy of time and energy when they were pushing to gain the ground, and it’s hypocritical to call for conservatives to just say “the issue is settled” so they can quit fighting the “social” battles and focus on so-called “fiscal conservatism”, which is no conservatism at all! And this is never done until the left has won a battle! Forget that, I’m not conceding!

I’ve posted it too, but Trump trumps everything, apparently, issues and all. Cult of personality right before our eyes.

Last I heard, Trump was against Common Core.

And what has Congress done regarding the destruction of our military?

The biggest divider of the Republican party has been the issue of abortion........Why has it never been an issue in the Democrat party since it's safe to assume that not all Dems really support pro choice............?

There is not one damn thing that any politician can do, even the president, to overturn R v W..........

He can take all the stances he wants, but he has no power to change anything regarding it!

Conservatives had better start dealing with the reality of the dangers we face that the President can actually address, not the ones he can't.

How about at least a start by letting the states handle it? That’s the way of the left, fight battles incrementally until they’ve taken over the joint, then come out strong.

DT is a Nationalist Populist. I would agree with that.

Being a "nationalist populist" is not necessarily a good thing.

Although I don't think the man is the raving anti-Semite some of his supporters think he's signaling.
