Governor Pence was pleased to welcome Mr. Trump back to Indiana and hear firsthand his plans for the country. The Governor was also grateful for the opportunity to describe Indiana's economic success and expressed his desire to have a partner in the White House who will help advance pro-growth economic policies, reduce burdensome regulation and curb the size and scope of government. With more than 130,000 new private sector jobs created since he took office, Governor Pence believes addressing these issues is critical in order for Indiana to continue to be a great place to live, work and raise a family.

FYI UA, the parent company of Carrier, made huge profits last year.
It certainly is of vital importance, as an issue. It is also an opportunity for Trump to reduce negative impressions by explaining the underlying economic & social aspects.

And that's what Made America Great!!!
Businesses that are terrified of the government!!
And that’s why I don’t trust Trump ... he seems far too willing to make people too scared to cross him. I’ve had enough of living in a country where people are running scared from the government, and won’t really feel any better about it if the authoritarian-in-chief has an ‘R’ after his name instead of a ‘D’. It’s just a perpetuation of the problem.
Well, as a novice economist, I can not answer what happens to the market based on "may" without conjecture. In other words, please tell me how we get to a point that most wage earners only make $3 per hour.
Narco-Mexico versus Narco US. Take your pick the sellers or the consumers? Mexico should completely decriminalize the production of drugs. Why should they bear the brunt of our addiction?
“How come whenever I read about one of these factory closings and offshoring to Asia and elsewhere, the company in question is actually very profitable? “
Because the media, which has a liberal, pro-union, agenda prints those stories.
“When I do a little research it always turns out that they are making huge profits and no where near losing money.”
So what. Companies (especially manufacturing companies with a lot of tooling) plan years in advance in supply chain and have to stay ahead of competition. If managed correctly, big moves are made when still profitable.
“UA, the parent company of Carrier, made huge profits last year.”
Sounds like they are a well-managed company whose board makes proactive decisions, but not relevant to the relevant questions:
How was the particular profitability of this line of A/C units doing?
Were lower-cost competitors poised to capture market share?
So now they should lower the price! Not gonna happen....
Luckily we are gong to get a Persistent that will put America first. Go Trump!
“So now they should lower the price! Not gonna happen....”
So, in your mind, businesses should be regulated on how much profit they make?
What kind of return on investment should be allowed stockholders who take risk? 5%? 10%? 20%?
You are promoting the ideas of Bernie Sanders, you know.
So...the price I would have to pay for a Carrier air conditioner is going to go up by as much as 30%?
You’ll be treated how Trump wants unwanted unborn babies to be treated, but dream on.
Just buy another brand! Simple.
“So...the price I would have to pay for a Carrier air conditioner is going to go up by as much as 30%?”
Yep.
Tariffs make certain people rich in the country and the rest of us broke.
You would think Trumpers would look at Venezuela and see how great protectionism works, but I doubt they can make the intellectual leap.
LOL! As long as they can get their employees for a fraction of what Americans cost they'll continue to move offshore.
$3 or $5 is not important. Relative wages are declining particularly at the middle level and below. Corporations are trying to reduce labor costs. Where I work they are farming out a greater portion of the spreadsheet work (which requires a much higher skill set than the average worker) to offshore because labor costs are 1/3 of what they are here. Many of the trade workers pay is down as well. I deal with groups of physicians and they complain their compensation is down. With the reduced income workers (or former workers) won’t have the income to purchase the products for companies like Carrier. It is a vicious cycle where each company in turn cuts wages which reduces the available market for not only their own products but other products.
Not sure where the end is but having an increasing portion of the workforce not working creates social stresses.
Henry Ford increased pay for his workers partially because he recognized that he needed a market for his cars.
As if Cruz’s socialistic VAT tax will create nirvana. Carrier is not the only company that makes air conditioners.
Why not force the union to renegotiate to $3 an hour?
Carrier is using Mexico to increase their profits not go out of business.
What regulations are forcing them out?
