(CNSNews.com) - Republican Donald Trump, appearing on Thursday's "Today" show, said transgenders should be allowed to "use the bathroom that they feel is appropriate."
"So if Caitlyn Jenner were to walk into Trump Tower and want to use the bathroom, you would be fine with her using any bathroom she chooses?" host Matt Lauer asked Trump.
"That is correct," Trump said.
Asked for his view on the North Carolina bathroom controversy, Trump said the state has "paid a big price" for requiring transgenders to use the restroom that corresponds with their biological sex.
"Leave it the way it is," he said.
"One of the best answers I heard was from a commentator yesterday, saying 'Leave it the way it is right now.' There have been very few problems. Leave it the way it is. North Carolina, what they're going through with all of the business that's leaving and all of the strife, and that's on both sides -- you leave it the way it is.
"There have been very few complaints the way it is. People go, they use the bathroom that they feel is appropriate. There has been so little trouble. And the problem with what happened in North Carolina is the strife, and the -- the economic punishment that they're taking."

Trump said he doesn't know if he has any transgender people working for him. "I probably do, I really don't know."
Trump noted that there's a "big move to create new bathrooms" for transgenders.
"First of all, I think that would be discriminatory in a certain way. It would be unbelievably expensive for businesses and for the country. Leave it the way it is."
I’m a Trump supporter but this I don’t agree with. That said, every politician one supports stands for at least some things that you cannot support.
This is not likely to work out well no matter what happens. If Trump is denied the nomination on the basis of procedural technicalities, it will very likely alienate his large base of voters from supporting the Republican candidate.
If on the other hand, Trump wins the nomination, we will have to look forward to an endless parade of him caving in on social issues such as this.
We have just once more found ourselves in a set of unfortunate, "bad-luck" circumstances.

It was a set-up by the far left. A super liberal North Carolina mayor and a registered sex offender pushed the ordinance to let any man who 'at the moment felt like a woman' use the women's bathrooms, locker rooms and showers. That opened the door for any man, even sex offenders, to legally do it - as long as they claimed that's how they felt.
The mayor was baiting the state legislature. The legislature took the bait and the uproar began.
You're a liberal, which is demonstrated by your use of that tired old deceptive phrase "social issues."
Actual conservatives understand that what you want to dismiss with a wave of your liberal hand as "social issues" are actually the moral FOUNDATIONS of the American form of government and claim to self-government in liberty.
