Ted Cruz has made few friends among Republicans in Washington during his nearly four years in the Senate, but his message to GOP elite as he looks to build support to the partys presidential nominee is that he would bring more Republicans along with him.
In a private meeting with members of the Republican National Committee, the Cruz campaigns high command, including campaign manager Jeff Roe, strategist David Polyansky, and delegate-hunters Ken Cuccinelli and Saul Anuzis, made the case for Cruz as the partys stronger choice for the general election and argued hed help down-ballot GOP races. Mathematically eliminated from winning the GOP nomination on the first ballot, Cruz is betting on Donald Trump failing to reach the 1,237 delegates required to win the nomination on the first ballot, and plotting to secure as many of the then-unbound votes as possible.
According to multiple people in the room, Roe pitches the members on Cruzs commitment to grassroots organizing and cited poll numbers showing Cruz as a better candidate than Trump in the general election. Yet Cruzs own numbers are less than spectacular, trailing Hillary Clinton in nearly every poll, and often by substantial margins.
Cruz made a late addition to his schedule Wednesday to attend the spring meeting of the RNC at a beachside resort in Hollywood, Fla, where his campaign has arranged an afternoon of small-group meetings with RNC members. The Florida meeting represents the largest gathering of known delegates to the convention,...

Shameful.
Cruz is letting his personal ambition and hatred for Mr. Trump prevail.
Originally, I was Trump first, then Cruz...But as the last few weeks unfolded, I came to doubt Cruz and his “outsider” claims because of his actions with the elites..
Now he has shown that I was right in doubting him...He is no more than a “professional politician” whose main interest is in Ted Cruz and NOT America as he claimed...
“His political career is over. Hes burned all his bridges. Insiders and Outsiders have no respect for him.”
He could go full Mormon and retrench in Utah as a permanent regional presence.
It might be exile, but a kind of genteel exile amongst decent enough people. It wouldn’t trouble his conscience any, and he could still do such good as is within his limits.
He rails against the Washington Cartels but now wants to work with them.
Cruz sounds like a desperate man. Willing to sell his soul to the Devils.
The only path toward clear victory is for Cruz to make peace with Trump, get behind that campaign and unite the Anti-GOPe movement solidly.
I have written to him and said as much too.

AS I replied in post 20,,,,
I've been attempting to remain optimistic regarding Cruz but this is probably the straw that broke the camel's back.
Hope all is well,,,, Doc
Exactly right. When you look back, Cruz was running for President before he took his Senate seat. He openly discussed the crowded moderate lane and how he would benefit being the only "true conservative" in the conservative lane.
It was all setup. He is no better than Rubio for holding a Senate seat and accomplishing nothing except setup a Presidential campaign.
Meant to say post #8
His political career is over. Hes burned all his bridges. Insiders and Outsiders have no respect for him.
However, based on some of the comments here, outsiders (many here on FR) are still supporting him :(
Well, he met with GOPe to try to mend fences today :( so who knows
Little comment here needed.....Ted Cruz has done himself in. He cannot even muster a crowd of one or two hundred folks to his political rallies. The choice of cuddling with Glenn Beck and bad mouthing New Yorkers has instantly destroyed his political career. This man Cruz is neither smart nor, wrapped too tight. I think the craziness of his Pappy and the lunatic impact of Glenn Beck, did him in!!! It’s the cesspool of obscurity, forever, for Ole Teddy Boy and his self-inflicted wounds. What a buffoon. If the RNC listens to, or heeds him....they will destroy the entire Republican Party.
I actually think ‘the powers that be’ will start pressing Ted to drop out as the #NeverTrump coalition dissolves. Especially if he performs poorly next week.
The last thing the RNC wants is 2 candidates they can’t stand ripping into each other at the convention, tearing the party apart, and threatening the down ballot candidates they do like.
But according to others on this board I’m an idiot so what do I know.
Shameful.
Cruz is letting his personal ambition and hatred for Mr. Trump prevail.
Ted has spent his career as a government employee. He is currently behaving like a petulant child
The only ones supporting him here are paid shills or Dead Enders.
McConnell was seen with a hammer and a bunch of glass bottles he was smashing out in the Senate parking lot.
When asked about what he was doing, McConnell replied that he was preparing the way for Cruz to crawl over broken glass to get McConnell to consider endorsing him.
[joke]
Cruz is sidling up to the GOPestablishment just like Rubio jumped in with the gang of 8.
The gang of 8 USED Rubio to the point of getting the comprehensive immigration bill through the Senate. Afterward, they sidelined Rubio and the ones taking the bows and getting the accolades on the news programs were Schumer and McCain.
The only reason I would even slightly hope for an open convention would be to see the look on Cruz’s face when they dump him on the 2nd and 3rd and subsequent ballots. He sole purpose has been and continues to be to try to stop Trump. After which a new selectee will become the face of the 2016 Republican nomination. There is no way they are going to annoint him as the nominee.
I watched Ted speak today and he creeped me out. He sounded petty, mean, arrogant.
For some reason I get this bad feelings HE’S the reason his wife had a breakdown. And it has more to do with his ugly mouth than the cheating.
He really does believe he’s the smartest man alive.
LOL
Agreed. I used to like him, now I find him unbearable. Judging from the posts on FR he seems to have alienated a lot of people here. He used to be universally popular here, now I would venture most FReepers can’t stomach him. It’s not surprising his negatives go up as people get to know him.
i suppose that’s what happens when one has been enabled, not had to work in the real world?
