Increasing threats from China and Russia are causing some lawmakers to look at restarting the F-22 fighter production line, a House Armed Services Committee staffer said Tuesday.
The draft defense authorization bill from the Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land Forces requires the Air Force to deliver a report to Congress by Jan. 1, 2017, detailing future aircraft shortfalls and what it would cost to buy more F-22s.
****snip*****
The committee is asking the Air Force to provide cost estimates for another 194 F-22s.
The committee staffer said the report was included in the bill at the request of a member, but declined to say which lawmaker. The staffer also stressed that the bill requires only looking at restarting the F-22 production line, and is not a sign that Congress will actually support such a measure.
"I'm going to take a wild guess and guess it would be very expensive," the committee staff member said

Another Obama blunder? I wouldn’t completely rule it out.
Storm clouds rising? Navy ramping up, now the AF. Hmmm... we are behind the 8 ball. Proaction always beats reaction and we are noting but reactive.
Could also be a reaction to the underwhelming F35.
Quite frankly, our military is the only department/agency we need. All the others are a waste of money and consume our economy with regulations.
The F-35 is so ****ed up the flyaway costs are now on par with the F-22.
Hate on the F35 from a position of ignorance all you want.
But note, 2 different aircraft, 2 different missions.
Wow. Good call, eh? Might not be as expensive as rebuilding the Hog.
Would they have to buy the tooling back from the Chinese, or is it still around?
It’s no secret that 0bama and crew gave them the f-22.
I bet someone got wind of the number of j-31s the Chinese are ramping up

It would take some time to get the people trained back up, but at least the core capability is there.
I understand they destroyed the tooling for the A-10...a criminal act in my mind.
“Hate on the F35 from a position of ignorance all you want.”
Are you saying the Pentagon’s own top weapons expert is ignorant?

There were about 1000 subcontractors for the program to get Congress to pony up the dough.
Much of that tooling is likely gone.
Better to spend that money on developing air superiority drones.

So what mission does the F-35 do better any aircraft currently in our inventory?

Eat Money ?
The F-22 is a superior aircraft in many aspects..............................
I believe in the A-10 but I also believe that a newer version is needed. I am thinking add STOL capabilities with retractable leading edge air foils and make the aircraft a bit lighter to allow it to operate off of two lane roads a bit easier. With some upgrade in electronics and avionics and you could have a modern version that would be just as lethal. Sort of an A-10a
Obama will veto.
