Hey, Ted Cruz: New York values are everywhere — and they work
Marketwatch ^ | 4/17/16 | Tim Mullaney

If the opinion polls are correct, Sen. Ted Cruz will be shown a thing or two on Tuesday by the New York voters he’s been insulting by going on about fellow Republican presidential contender Donald Trump’s “New York values.’’

Everyone knows what values he meant, Cruz says. We sure do. Cruz meant freedom, respect, diversity and striving. But he disdains those values when it means gays are free, women are respected, and immigrants strive. Unfortunately for Cruz, those all-inclusive values help build prosperity — and win national elections.

Here are some of our New York values:

Hard work. If you can do the job, you can have it. Thee same goes for a house, an apartment, or even a cake for a same-sex wedding. Offices and entire communities are better off because they’re open-minded to diversity. You can make it here — as long as you can do the work.

Anybody who opposes New York Values is a traitor.

Mr. Trump needs to round them all up and deport them on day 1 after his inauguration. He should gather the names now so that he can punish them as soon as he is in office.

I certainly hope that he makes Roger Stone his Attorney General so that this can happen with utmost speed.

A Vote for Trump is a Vote For Diversity!

Go Trump!!!!!

ROFL. Guess I'm a traitor then for opposing New York's political liberal socialist values. Y'know....the values Cruz meant when he used that term. No sane person (democrats excluded) would think he was talking about values like hard work and etc. when he was saying that.

It fed my family and put all three through college. It’s called a work ethic.

You’re slightly more ignorant than Ted, and that takes work!

Listen up nitwit. In California we lose on important things like governor selection by 10 to 15%. That means that a 5%+1 or 7.5%+1 swing would win it for Conservatism.

You could figure this out on your own, but evidently you don’t have the tools, so someone like myself has to explain it to you.

These states are not 100% Leftist.

Pull your head out of your hind-side and get with the program. You don’t insult folks you need to support you.

You’re trashing a lot of very decent folks by referencing New York the way you do.

By contrast, your state could swing 5%+1 to 7.5%_1 and be Leftist. There’s a lot thinner margin at play here than you think. You’re not that much better than New York when come right down to it.

Wise up.

And when Ted Cruz is elected (I can’t even type that without laughing) he can outlaw dildos and round up those dangerous sex toy dealers. Because as he argued in court the state has a compelling interest in discouraging masturbation.

What a bunch of horse crap.

Cruz did make a big mistake with the "New York Values" comment.

Not because he was insulting New Yorkers, everyone, including Trump, knows he wasn't.

It was a mistake because it is too easily twisted into a dishonest, pandering, politically correct club with which to beat Cruz. That's what this article does, and that's what Trump did at the debate and continues to do.

For a guy who "isn't a politician", Trump certainly took the dishonest, pandering, politically correct football and ran; waving the flag, wagging his finger, and pretending that Cruz was somehow attacking 9/11 first responders with his "New York Values" statement.

Yep, bad move, Cruz.

Folks outside NY understood exactly what Cruz meant when he referred to NY values. It was the media and Trump campaign that misconstrued the meaning of what he said.

>It is promotion of homosexual marriage.
>Promotion of special rights for transgenderism.
>Supporting illegal alien rights.
>Promotion of abortion on demand.
>High taxation to pay for out of control spending.
>Support of the insane climate change hoax.
>Oppressive regulation on individuals and corporations.
>Political correctness run amok.

Ted Cruz was spot on when he called out NY values. It is primarily NY politicians stances on the issues, but those politicians are in power because the voters who supported them.

Except the other 49 states couldn’t give a damn, and Cruz was never going to win NY. It was Trump’s from day 1. This is about a 1 on a scale of 10. Maybe a 1 on the scale of a 100. If this is his biggest unforced error, he’s doing pretty good.

NY is a Dem heavy State. Those are THEIR values. But don't pin them on the rest of us.

Cruz should have been addressing Hillary or Sanders if anyone.

Funny Trump doesn’t post all the polls showing him getting stomped by Clinton and Sanders.

Wonder why CBS is using polls to push Trump?

Wonder what Trump and Bill Clinton talked about for a hour prior to Trump announcing for President?

Agreed. I do think Ted could have conveyed this message a bit better. Targeting NY policy rather than NY values.

There are millions of conservative descent folks in NY. Unfortunately, the majority of NY voters are liberal to the bone.

Unfortunately, one of their values is to make all of us liove under their values.

Cruz originally addressed Trump because he is the one who used the term explicitly to explain why he was pro-abortion. I accept that Trump will be generally pro-life as president, if not as aggressive in federal regs (or lack thereof), filling the cabinet and courts, etc. I would like to know how, if New York values informed his then pro-abort position, he adopt the contrary position but still maintain the other New York values in the way that he describes. I'm not saying it can't be done, but I don't see the pro-abort position living in isolation with a lot of other such positions.
