On Thursday, Corey Lewandowski, the campaign manager for Donald Trump, was cleared of simple battery charges by Florida prosecutors. Police charged Lewandowski after reporter Michelle Fields, who at the time was with Breitbart News, accused him of grabbing her while she asked Donald Trump a question during an event in early March. Fields resigned her position following the incident.
Lewandowski, speaking to Blake Burman of the FOX Business Network, explained what happened that night in Florida and said he tried to get in touch with Fields.
“I picked up the phone and I called Michelle,” Lewandowski said. “I wanted to find out what happened because I didn’t know what happened because I never heard from her. To this day the campaign’s never heard from her. She never once called and said ‘hey, this took place. I’d like to go and resolve this issue. I don’t want to make this a story.’ None of that ever took place. But because I saw what the Twitter feed was saying, I said ‘jeez, let’s find out what’s going on.’”
The campaign manager said he turned over his phone records to the district attorney’s office in Florida in order to prove he made the calls that evening.
“I never heard back [from Fields],” Lewandowski said. “The [Trump] campaign never heard back. And I think what we could have done, if she didn’t want to become the story here, is have a private conversation saying ‘this is what I think occurred.’”

You may be right on both counts.
But it did, for a while.
The biggest shame is those journalists who used it as ammo when they probably thought it was full bull$hit but went with it anyways.
I can forgive competing campaign staffs as they’re going to use what ever is available. While it is dirty tricks, politics have always been so.
Journalists laud themselves on how fair they are and how they’re just covering the facts. That of course is bull$hit, and Free Republic exists to no small part because of media/press hypocrisy and Left-sidedness.
Didn’t Megyn Kelly of Fox News do at least a week’s worth of shows on how much trouble Trump was in because of this “shocking” crime?

Rush, of all people, should have known better. Never, never, never apologize to a liberal. It’s never enough, and it places you in a position where they’ll come after you again - only with more vengeance.
Maybe the GOPe twisted his arm to apologize. Can’t be labeled as the party that hates women you know!
Backfired? The Trump campaign did an abysmal job of handling this incident.
The guy had assault charges filed against him. OF COURSE his opponents are gonna use it.
So Fields missed out on an apology. . . and quit her job. . . and looks foolish. . . and looks dishonest.
I don’t think this worked out as she expected it to.
They made politically motivated statements that they would have fired the man based on her allegations. Do they stand by those statements?
