Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump erupted on Twitter Sunday night, after a weekend which saw Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas sweep all of Colorado’s 37 delegates without any votes being cast by citizens in a traditional primary process.

Everyone might remember that intra-party selections of candidates in almost all nations with democratic elections are *not* done by elections, but by party congresses/conferences or even just party leaders (usually in government).

In America it has been left up to the parties, and especially the parties at the state level to decide how delegates to national conventions, including those that nominate presidential candidates are selected, and it is always the party convention, not primaries, not caucuses, the party convention that nominates the presidential candidate.

Colorado is, admittedly, an extreme case, as most state party organizations use either primaries or caucuses to consult the voters. Of course, there are the opposite extreme cases of winner-take-all primaries where the party organization has ceded any influence to a plurality of the voters, and the states where the party has chosen to take the state-government’s dime in exchange for the devil’s bargain of an open primary that lets people with no commitment to the party’s traditional stance on issues help select delegates.

All the candidates face the same rules in each state. In some media presence gives an advantage, in others organization on the ground does. There is nothing unfair about any of the ways of selecting delegates, they are just different and highlight different strengths of the candidates and their campaigns.

///Cruz is a sack of $hit! I’ll never vote for that degenerate filth gutter rat!

Cruz is a man of honor and integrity. Trump was beaten square and fair in CO. Yet he is stirring the pot with false accusations and whining. He is still only playing to his own supporters instead of trying to grow his base. Whining and false attacks are not a winning strategy for a presidential candidate and yet Trump can’t help himself.

“I think Trump deliberately let Colorado go...”

Ah, the old, “we planned on losing” ploy!

Are you FREAKING KIDDING ME??? Donald HATES to lose as witnessed by his infantile response to having his clock cleaned in Colorado.

Admit it, Trump is getting out-played in the nitty gritty of delegate selection. If he really wants to get the nomination, he needs to get his sh!t together.

What’s he smiling about???

I don't know. And neither do you--as much as you'd *like* to attribute it to something you don't like. It's a picture without context, and with a caption. FR does it all the time to mock Dems.

It’s all over the news that Cruz stole Colorado.

Ahh--I missed the memo that the news is now 100% reliable.

I see the Bush mole learns well from Hillary. Lose the race but steal the Delegates.

What race did he lose? He played by the rules, and he won.

“Voters not needed.”

You know that is an absolute lie, right? The delegates in Colorado were chosen ... through the voting process. Local Republicans, men and women who have invested time in local politics, VOTED to assign their delegates to Cruz.

“Voters not needed” is an absolutely pathetic lie.

It normally doesn’t matter. Most of the time, it is a 2-person race by Super Tuesday, and then the rest fall in with whoever is leading at that point. The difference this year is that the majority don’t want Trump. At all. So the rest of the country isn’t falling in line behind him.

He didn’t erupt on twitter. I just looked, actually seem like a slow twitter night for him.

What you're posting now is the Cruz campaign line. What I'm posting to you is this guy has zero credibility now (to me) as an "Outsider" or "Conservative".

"Reached Out" to delegates? Read the various stories posted here on FR. "Reached Out" isn't the term I would apply.

I've seen enough justifications and lies from his campaign to convince me. How much you're willing to justify and accept is entirely up to you.

All the candidates face the same rules in each state.

The fact that each state organizes its procedure is reflective of actual small r republican polity. If one disapproves, it can be changed, but not after the fact.

Cruz is sweeping nothing. This is the work of the GOPe machine using party insiders who have been in place since before the primaries began.

Of course Cruz is loving this but he and his guys are not lifting a finger. This cheating and skullduggery all comes from embedded Republican party hacks and thugs who have spent years in state Republican parties. They will cast Cruz aside at the convention. Only question is on what ballot.
