Trump Forces Lured Down The Wrong Road? (vanity)
Strac6

Posted on 04/10/2016 7:35:25 PM PDT by Strac6

At the outset, let me assure all the Trump supporters, the Cruz supporters, the Kasich supporters and anyone else interested in the outcome of the Republican presidential primary that this article is not written with the intent to help or hurt any candidate. It is simply a dose of reality in an often confused political knife fight.

In trying to advance the case that Sen. Cruz is not eligible to be President of the United States because he was born in Canada, the Trump forces are on what is undoubtably a fool’s errand. I’m not going to take the time here explaining the legalities of United States Code 1401 and related statutes, nor the difference between a “natural born citizen” and a “native born citizen,” or how some Supreme Court decision of 114 years ago is not applicable today or any of the other legal arguments some Trump supporters try to advance…. AND THAT IS NOT WHAT THIS ARTICLE IS ABOUT!

The reality is that the “citizenship’ issue may be a well-laid Cruz trap.

The problem with all these “Sen. Cruz is ineligible” arguments is that none of them have advanced in the courts. On every question of when a presidential candidate was not a native born citizen, but was a natural born citizen under the law, the courts have always decided in favor of the candidate. As an example, Sen. McCain was born in Panama while his father served there in the Navy, George Romney was born in Mexico to American citizen Mormon missionaries, and other presidential candidates have not been native born.

If there was any validity to these arguments, three things would be happening. First, well-founded and well-funded law teams PAID FOR BY OTHER CANDIDATES would be advancing the matter through the courts. Secondly, other candidates than Trump would be screaming the issue from the rooftops, finally, and most importantly, the serious money donors that contribute heavily to the presidential campaigns would’ve abandoned Cruz a long time ago.

Reality check: Even Trump rarely mentions the issue any longer.

But there is a real danger to the Trump supporters in trying to concentrate on the citizenship issue, regardless if it is real or not. By concentrating their efforts on this, they are wasting time and effort they could spend in other ways to advance Mr. Trump. Ted Cruz is far from the perfect presidential candidate, but by devoting time and energy to the citizenship issue, Trump supporters are missing dozens of opportunities to attack him on other issues.

More importantly, I’m sure some senior Cruz supporters are glad Trump supporters are concentrating on the citizenship issue, because there is a natural tendency among voters, that when one line of attack is proved to be false or foolish, the candidates other lines of attack tend to go down with it.

The classic example of this was the 2004 George W. Bush reelection campaign. You’ll remember that CBS News, in the persona of Dan Rather, highlighted a supposedly huge story that then-Air Force reservist Bush had used his father’s political influence to avoid service in Vietnam. It was a huge story when it ran on CBS, and in fact, it totally overshadowed anything else for days.

But the Bush people were very smart. They knew the story was totally false and they led CBS and Kerry into a huge ambush over it.

You may remember that CBS called the White House asking for a comment or a denial. The WH quietly said, “we’ll get back to you.” The WH didn’t, and the story ran with much hoopla that night.. and for nights afterward.

Bush polls were down.

But simply put, CBS and Dan Rather had put all their eggs in that BS story’s basket.

Various entities around the country, FR leading them, soon started poking holes in the CBS story.

Rather, or more correctly, Rather’s ego led him further down the primrose path of journalistic destruction.

When the story was proved false, Bush ratings went higher than they were before the "story" broke. Bush had "stood up" to Rather... and Bush won.

I won’t go into all the history, but in the end, it cost Rather his job, his reputation even among the liberals, and it cost CBS any semblance of respect that had going into the story.

Bottom line. If you are against Cruz and for Trump, don’t waste your time on this Flat Earth argument. It hurts very badly when the door gets slammed shut on what you thought were facts, and you find you have wasted all your effort on a false hope.

Just ask Dan Rather.

So you are going to donate $10,000 to FreeRepublic. Thank you.

The fact you tried to forum slide shows I won with a devastating logical argument.

Not only were you exposed for the GOPe troll you are but you failed to counter the factual argument.

I have read it. I believe your focus on USC 1401 is blurring your vision. You are clearly conflating “Citizen at Birth”, a status of naturalization conferred by statute, with that of “Natural Born Citizen”, which requires no US law to define, as by looking at one’s US issued birth certificate becomes entirely self evident. Oh, that’s right, Ted does not have a US issued birth certificate. Poor Ted.

I have personally found this useful, perhaps you will as well.
https://libertyborn.wordpress.com/2014/12/29/new-evidence-1790-naturalization-act/

But, I am not wasting any time on this issue and neither is Trump, as we don’t really need to. The Democrats will have a field day with it.

One last thing. I will go against my own beliefs that Ted’s birthplace makes him ineligible to be POTUS and cast my vote for him in the general should he become the nominee. I will do so because Hillary or Bernie are a complete disaster for this country. But that will not stop the Rats from making this a huge issue either legally, or psychologically. This will come down to what voters think about “Natural Born Citizen”, and not likely what any court thinks. But it could also come down to what the electoral college and/or Congress thinks about the issue, in my own humble opinion.

What concerns me is, and I have not heard anyone else mention this, is the fact that Trump’s wife is foreign-born. Do we want a President’s wife to be foreign-born? Not simply foreign-born but in a former U.S.S.R. country with the communist doctrine firmly entrenched in her mind and the possible influence that she could have on her husband, a.k.a., The President of the USA. Communists-bloc communists did not simply die in the early 90s. They are still alive and well.

right to privacy — search and and seizure protected in your stuff without a court order not a lien from a non authorized clump that can by unlawful order take your stuff. swamp land snail land etc. steal your property with a fed fractional reserve debt instrument instead of lawful money . sorry for the rant about courts. a bunch of assssersesaererer in black dreeses don’t make the law. they only enforce lawlessness at the point of a gun. Only God can redeem their souls if they ask for his forgiveness. he is god and he will forgive i might not. other wise, a deep and unbearable hell for them. end rant.

So wait you’re saying that Ted Cruz dodged service in the Royal Mounties by claiming to be an American citizen?

By wasting time on the issue, by giving Hillary ammunition to attack Trump supporters as “weirdos”.

That's the reason. Really? I don't think this will hurt Trump even the slightest bit. Hillary will throw so much crap on the wall, the issue will be moot, and will be small. For Trump.

Don't misunderstand, I personally don't have much to say on this issue, it's not something I talk much about. The only thing I know about it, is Hillary would be the one to skewer Cruz if he miraculously won the nomination. I have zero doubt she would bring it to the Supreme Court if he were the nominee. Would you bet on what would happen if she did?

I wouldn't.

Non-starter? Can U explain why Cruz has sealed all of those records? His mothers as well?
If he has nothing to hide, why is he hiding them? It reeks.

Good piece. You hit the key point that even if the Cruz birthers are technically correct, the argument will never get traction. Pursuing it is a fool's errand.

I wish you all would hold your fire. IMHO, our rather new member, Strac6 composed an excellent, informative essay which basically mirrors Jim's opinion, regarding Rafael Cruz's eligibility to hold our nation's highest elected office.

Furthermore, Ted Cruz birther law suit appealed to Supreme Court.

No need to get snappy with Strac6.

You all are so much better than that.

I read through all the posts that received a reply from Strac6. I'm only pinging y'all because I want you and Strac6 to see the Appeal to the Supreme Court.

None of us have any idea "why" Cruz has his records sealed. Ditto for Obama.
Interesting ...

“Once Cruz is the nominee on the second ballot, it will be worse, but after that we all go back to being friends.”

I do not know if Trump or Cruz will prevail, but I do not believe you are correct about the kissing and make-up phase. The beauty of Freedom of Speech is it makes it easy to spot the fools. Should Trump gain the nomination and win the election, I suspect Trump Amnesia Syndrome will set in almost immediately as Trump does what Trump does, make deals with liberals.
